Ed Karjala's photostream
|

Joy in looking and comprehending is nature's most beautiful gift.
- Albert Einstein
Photography has taught me to look for stories in everyday life. When I see a good one, I like to retell it a thousand words at a time. This flickr photostream is my attempt to share the world with you the way I experience it.

I am also open to discussing your need for my abilities as a photographer for a special event, portrait sitting, etc., or as a processing expert to digitize, retouch, or restore your photographs.

VinaPix says:
"This photostream is a must for many reasons... If you want example of what good images should look like, you'll find them here... If you need ideas and inspiration for something new, you'll find it here in buckets or, if you just enjoy other peoples photographs as much as I do then this is one of the best places to visit on Flickr! This is especially true as Ed has the gift to take many of the things that you and I see everyday and to turn them into beautiful, well composed, perfectly metered and simply outstanding images! Go ahead... take a good look... (But be warned. Ed's photostream is addictive!)"

"Having known Ed since he was called "Eddy", I can say that he's toyed with a camera for as long as I can remember. Back then it was all film, of course, and the hobby was pretty pricey, particularly for a 14 or 15 year old kid.
I'm glad, after time away, he's rediscovered his love for the hobby. It's because of him that I now have a new hobby on which to spend my hard earned cash. Thanks Ed. Thanks ever so much...
It's also played a role in bringing us closer together as friends. Now, my wife and Ed's wife are quite close. Robin and I find ourselves looking at our calendars to see when we can next travel back to NH to take more pictures with Ed and Christi.
One day, we'll have friends over for dinner. And, as we're retiring to the patio for evening drinks and cigars, our guests will pass a print on our wall and exclaim, "HEY! That's a KARJALA!!!!".
I'll nod my head and reply, "Why, yes. It is. Ed's a close and personal friend of mine. And not yours."
I look forward to that day."4th June, 2007

"There's something about both Ed and his photography that makes you return. Not only is it damned better than most all on Flickr, but often there'll be a sort of hidden humour about it.
Additionally, as should be ith Flickr, Ed makes sure this is a two way street, ready to help people , offer constructive criticism, or just put in a word or two about someones work."10th April, 2007

"here's what i adore about ed. about once every other day or so, i find myself surfing over here, just to see if he's posted. he's THAT GOOD (like, need-to-know-basis good). i mean, every single post is interesting and artful and meaningful and thoughtful and skillful; in other words, this stream is full of the essence of fine, fine photography. he's also incredibly kind, he's got a wicked sense of humor, and he's as smart as smart gets -- making him a veritable trifecta in my book. (would that be a flickrfecta? hmm.)
i digress. the guy's good. really really good. trust me on this.
he just doesn't post enough. :-)"22nd February, 2007

"Ed is probably one of the best nature photographers on flickr and maybe of all photographers. But not only does he have incredible talent but he also is a spectacular person. He is wonderfully generous with his time and energy and is willing to share is expertise with others.
Ed, congratulations with all your success!! I will be keeping a close eye on you."22nd January, 2007

Jeff Clow says:
"I've had the distinct pleasure of getting to know Ed through the magic of his images - and the magic of his words - via the Flickr site. One slideshow through his photos will tell you what a terrific photo artist he is, but what you won't see is the wonderful individual behind the lens.
Ed has touched countless of us here at Flickr with his generous comments of encouragement on our own images. His words show him to be a true kind soul who has made Flickr a better place with his presence.
We are very lucky to have him as a leader within this community..."29th September, 2006

"ed is, without a doubt, one of the greatest nature photographers on flickr. he has a wonderful talent - instinct, even - of caputring the movement and colour in their full glory (look at his river shots or the picutre of the hummingbird) which makes the countryside that inspires him come alive on screen, and you feel like you can just walk into his world.
thanks for all the wonderful images you've shared with us, may there be plenty more to come!"17th November, 2005
