At our best and most fortunate we make pictures because of what stands before our camera, to honor what is greater and more interesting than we are. We never accomplish this perfectly, though in return we are given something perfect--a sense of inclusion. Our subject thus redefines us, and is part of the biography by which we want to be known.

"I have a friend that saw REM play a small club in Athens, GA, shortly after they released their first record. He had just stopped in to have a beer with a friend. He was so blown away by the talent and originality of the band that he turned to his friend and exclaimed that if there was any justice in the music world "this band is going to be huge." Well, if there is any justice in the fine art photography world..."

"Shannon's work is consistently brilliant old-school perfection. Every B&W square image of his is an inspiration."

"In today's fast-paced digital world, one could spot Shannon's work from miles away. He's an incredibly gifted photographer with a stunning eye for composition and light, one who really knows how to create impressive images that leave a big impact upon the public. His photographs are mostly black & white, but I don't know of any other photographer who makes such colorful photographs."

"So Pure, e l e c t r o l i t e' s squares are gritty, yet so loving towards it subjects. His work opens the souls of his people and they speak to me, transferred to art here. The choice in a square format imposes it's own frame of symmetry around a subject where one does not have to think in terms of horizontal vs vertical. I close of course that I have learned by traveling here and I wish I had taken some of those photographs. I can only try and I will return to in the hopes of taking in any new works of e l e c t r o l i t e."

Noel Kerns says:
"After I found my way to Flickr, one of the first photostreams that made me take notice that there were actually some exceptionally talented photographers here was Shannon's. He has what I call "old school" photographic knowledge and techniques. When you see an e l e c t r o l i t e photo, you know it's not some over-worked Photoshop creation; he has the genuine camera skills to produce the brilliant work he does the old fashioned way...behind the camera, not behind the computer. Likewise, he has one of the finest senses of composition I've ever seen as well; everything in Shannon's images is exactly, precisely where it should be.
It's refreshing in this age of ridiculous, over-saturated Photoshop inventions to be able to come back to Shannon's stream and see REAL photographic art!"13th April, 2008

"Electrolite is consistently brilliant. His classic use of film and vintage-style cameras is always inspiring. He captures the essence of Texas, Route 66 and somehow his photos rekindle a wanderlust and dreams of road trips many had long forgotten. His portraits of people and pets all possess an innate warmth and humanity that is neglected in the "modern" digital world."

"A master of streamlined compositions that are as striking in their simplicity as they are luxurious in their lack of overembellishment; poring over e l e c t r o l i t e 's stream pulls you in and glazes you over. Allow the slow pace of the southwest vibrates through you and prepare to be slackjawed, hypnotized, inspired and fulfilled."

"Shannon has put together a very, very impressive body of work - photography with humor, compassion, an eye for the revealing detail, and a distinctive and unifying visual style. You could spot one of his photos from across the room. His work deserves to be much, much better known, and I trust that, in time, that will happen."

"Shannon has a fantastic eye for capturing small town, rural America, amongst other things, that makes each of his images distinctly his own. I've been familiar with his work for a couple of years, and can always tell it's one of his fantastic images straight away from the thumbnail. A truly gifted and talented photographer. You can see his passion for photography in his work! Always an inspiration!"

"United with both thematic and chromatic contrasts, Smelterx's suburban work belies a distinct isolation within a bleakish communal atmoshere... All captured so perfectly through deep, luscious blacks and stark, but creamy whites. I should strive for such focus in my own work... and testimonials. Did I just write that? Anyway, he's good."
