I grew up with photography in the family. Sometime around when I was 10 I guess, my dad turned our back work room into a darkroom. Working in there with Dad was awesome.
Later, that fun dwindled away as dad became less interested and the back room made room for a kitchen remodel. Nonetheless, it left me with a great appreciation of the darkroom.

A few years back I had my first child and the point and shoot digital just wasn't hacking it anymore. Having always been a Nikon fan, I upgraded and the fun began again.

I'd rather be shooting with my Roli and Mamiya medium format, but that isn't practical right now.
