Lady Wulfrun's photostream
|
Welcome to my Photostream,
My dear Grandmother lived near to the old bus Depot in Cleveland Road, Wolverhampton, and on visits to see her as a child I was always captivated by the busy scenes both inside and outside the old Corporation bus garage. Something that I've never forgotten, and even today, the memory of it seems just as magical.
Since the 1970s, I have tried to record on film for posterity some of the transport scenes I have witnessed over the passing years. When photographing transport related subjects, I have always prefered to capture vehicles, whether working, or at rest, in their intended environment. I do hope that my pictures convey this.
Several years ago, I had the good fortune to acquire the slide collection of a Yorkshire based transport enthusiast, who had very sadly passed away. Some of the images he took in the late 1960's and early 1970's are also displayed here; I'm sure that like me, he'd have wanted to share his wonderful pictures with other like-minded people.
Both collections have been locked away in darkened cupboards for too many years, so please share in them with me, as they are brought into the light of day again, and through the modern wonders of computers and the internet, they can be seen in the public gaze for the first time.
I hope that you enjoy looking at these images, as much as I had in taking them, and as I do in sharing them with you.
Claire

Important
In respect to the above, I have decided for the foreseeable future, not to allow the use of my images for publication elsewhere. Honestly, it's more trouble than it is worth to me.
Who was Lady Wulfrun?
Lady Wulfrun, a member of the Mercian Royal Dynasty was captured and taken prisoner in 943 A.D during a Viking raid on the Mercian capital of Tamworth. Whether her release was by ransom (Danegeld ) or due to military action seems unsure, however she was granted 10 hides of land in 985 by Aethelred the second. In 994 she donated some of this land including Peoles-hale to a newly founded monastry in what is now Wolverhampton. The name Wolverhampton, came from Wulfrun heantune , later to become Wulvrenehamton, meaning Wulfuna's High Town).
Lady Wulfrun also had at least two sons Aelfhelm and Wulfric Spott.

"Lady Wulfrun's photostream is one which I visit frequently. The initial attraction was your interesting photos of buses, followed by the opportunity to see several parts of England which I have not visited. The informative captions and the humour only add to my enjoyment of your ever-expanding file. Thank you, Clare, for your fine efforts."

"Miss Claire's photostream is a must for anyone who is into photography. You don't have to appreciate (mainly) buses to enjoy it. Just by reading the description you can see why that picture makes sense to have been taken and often learn a lot from what you have just read.
A true pleasure indeed!"8th August, 2009

Gary S. Crutchley says:
"Claire's photographic collection is absolutely fascinating, and seemingly endless. Each image she uploads represents a historic record of life in our country, and I am sure they bring back many memories for those viewing them. Both the vehicles that were recorded, and also the scenes in which they were photographed are, in my opinion, a very important historic record.
Some of the images that Claire makes available must be completely unique, so it is wonderful that she is taking the time, and making the effort to share them.
Keep them coming Claire!
Best regards,
Gary"8th September, 2008

"Claire's photostream is an absolute joy to look at. She knows her stuff no matter what the subject and always gives a detailed caption to accompany the photograph. She has captured the things we have all at one time taken for granted and never dreamt of recording ourselves at the time. Claire is a true inspiaration and flickr would be a very quiet and lonely place without her."
