I am an old guy who has been into photography for 50 years. I am not as talented as some, but I enjoy it anyway. I seem to be partial to photographing flowers, and architecture, but I don't know why. Maybe it is because these things will stand still and pose forever. :-) However, I am attempting to branch out into more active subjects, such as wildlife. I am also trying to learn that the big picture is not always the most interesting picture. Sometimes, a detail makes the best composition. I don't go to exotic places, I just record things that I wish to remember. I don't take pictures of naked people so, my photo stream is completely family-safe. I am not a prude, I just think that it is extremely difficult to do a truly artistic nude portrait, and it is beyond my capabilities. I shoot with a Lumix FZ30 camera that has a Leica DC Vario-Elmerit Aspherical 35-420 mm image stabilized lens, a Sunpak Auto Super 383 flash, and a Slik Pro 400DX tripod (my Slik U112 tripod died after 30 years of use).

Feel free to critique my images, but don't just tell me that they stink. Tell me in detail WHY they stink. Likewise if you like one of my images, I would appreciate knowing why you like it. After all, constructive criticisim is one of the ways we learn and improve.

My images are copyrighted, and all rights are reserved. However any of my images are yours for the asking, and you may use them as you wish, except for commercial purposes (I doubt that will ever be an issue anyway). Also, please do not alter my images in any way.

My flickr friends have been most kind to me, heaping praise on my images that they probably don't deserve. I will forever be greatful for that. However, I am most greatful for the knowledge that I have gained by just browsing through their photo streams. Flickr is a very unique and wonderful place in cyber-space. I have had visits to my photo-stream from over 35,000 people, from all walks of life, and from all over the world. Not once, have any of them left an unkind comment. In this world, that is truly unique.

I have always tried to give as good or better than I get (i.e. if I received a fave, I gave an award to that person). Just trying to be nice. Lately though, it has gotten to the point that there are not enough hours in a day to keep up with all of it. By the time I get through responding to everyone, it is midnight, I have neglected my family, and I have to get up at 4:00 AM to go to work at my real job. Therefore, I can only respond to genuine constructive comments that the writer has given some thought to, and indicates that they have actually studied my image. I think that will be better for everyone concerned. Likewise, I will not be able to participate in groups where you post 1 image and must comment on several. If I comment on an image, it is because I truly feel something by viewing that image, and not because some group admin says that I have to. I am also restricting my contacts list to those people that have photo-streams with content that I am actually interested in. I will no longer make someone a contact simply to reciprocate, nor will I expect anyone to make me a contact simply to reciprocate. I am not trying to offend anyone, but I must have some time to spend with my family, and take photographs.

"Ed is a "down to earth", no nonsense kind of photographer. He has a real "Photographer's Eye" as evidenced by the large number of his pictures that have already made it into Explore.

I enjoy browsing his photostream.....it usually gives me some ideas for photos. My experience in Flickr is more enjoyable because Ed is one of my contacts.

Keep up the good work Ed."

"Ed is a great photographer and a wonderful flickr friend. Take a look at his photos and you will see beautiful birds and flowers, great architectural shots and remnants of things from the past (old railway engines, buildings and roadside scenes). It's always interesting to see what he's going to post next."
