I mix my own henna paste, including henna powder, lemon juice, essential oils (usually Cajeput and Bulgarian Lavender), and sugar. Occasionally other oils may be added for their aromatic properties.

The photos showing black lines are taken while the dark-green henna paste is still on the skin. Once it flakes off (or is scraped off) the design appears orange-ish, and will darken to a lovely cocoa-brown over a period of about 48 hours. The stain appears darker where the skin is thicker, such as palms and feet.
