I'm a bunch of things, including having been the teacher of two former students who challenged me to post photos, and start taking them again for fun, on Flickr. Obviously, most of my photos lack true quality, but I post them to show what's been going on in my life to share w/family and friends and anyone else who may be interested. Occasionally, I take a photo I really like, one that I think has potential, artistically. I'd love to get better, but there's only so much time. And so many other things I'd prefer to do!

My interests start w/my family. I have a wonderful wife, a five year-old son and a three year-old daughter who are everything fantastic everyone says having children can be, and a great dog named Marley. Then there's paddling of all sorts: canoeing, kayaking, rafting, flatwater, whitewater, ocean, where ever I can float a boat. I used to be a whitewater guide and led raft trips throughout the Eastern US, as well as occasionally on the Ganges/Mother Ganga in northern India. I still work as a guide, mostly sea kayaking, in the summer. Being outside, in general, is where I prefer to be. I (used to!) enjoy traveling, being a traveler (as opposed to a tourist): little money, no real itinerary, plenty of time, getting to know the people and places I happened upon - but that's been severely curtailed w/the family interests. I do look forward to some off-the-beaten-track traveling w/my children as they get older; we'll send mom to a resort, if we have to! Teaching, having the chance to give back as well as to provide what I feel are important learning opportunities that will make a difference in a child's life, is right up there as well.
