I've grown up in a very remote area in North-East Cambodia, the province of Ratanakiri. My parents are missionaries and linguists there. They have created a phonology, alphabet, and writing system for a small minority tribe called the Tampuan. I've also lived in Hilo, Hawaii and Greenville, South Carolina for periods of time. I guess it's hard to say where home really is.

I desire to hold Jesus Christ as my supreme treasure. All aspects of my life, including my photography, are not done for my personal pride, but for the glory of the God who created me and gave me my abilities. God has taken me, once a rebellious enemy of Him, and made me into his child through the power of the Cross of Christ–all for the Praise of His Glorious Grace.

I've spent the last four years of my life at studying at University. Unfortunately studies didn't help make my mind up about what I want to do when I grow up. So right now I'm back home in Ratanakiri doing volunteer work.

Photography has always been a hobby of mine. I enjoy it not as much for its own sake as for the joy of capturing a moment on film. My college major has been a help to my skills as a photographer; visually, the same principals of motion photography apply to stills. And an aesthetic sense developed through the use of motion pictures carries over to still photography.

Other things that capture my attention and dominate my time mainly take the form of art, history, literature, poetry, film, linguistics, anthropology. Probably music would trumph all those, though; both listening and performing. I enjoy riding motocross and mountain biking. The thing I love most, though, is traveling to new places, and experiencing new cultures, foods, and atmospheres.

I'm always eager to learn more about photography. I welcome all tips, critiques, and advice. Like it or hate it, please let me know why and what I can do better. I really want to learn and progress as a photographer.

I have my photos under Creative Commons "Some Rights Reserved," not that most people will care. To the occasional visitor who might actually want to use one of my photos, that means that you can use my photos all you want with my blessing, but for non-commercial use only. I would also really appreciate a credit of some kind; just something simple, like "Photo by Ethan Crowley," maybe with a link to my Flickr homepage. If for some reason you want to use it for commercial purposes, Flickrmail me. We can talk.

I see from browsing my fellow Flickrmember's pages that it's cool to post your "equipment." My equipment list is pretty anticlimactic. Here's my exhaustive list:

Nikon D40 with a Nikkor AF-S 18-55 3.5-5.6 lens

"I stayed with Ethan's family in Cambodia in early 2006, and they are among the most hospital and gracious people I've ever been with. Ethan was not actually living with them during most of this time. But for the last few weeks, he was back home. During that time he was my very competent freelance interpreter and also the producer of a video interview you can find at my website."
