Mackeson's photostream

What I love about photography:
1. 35mm cameras, particularly cheap ones.
2. 50mm fixed lens.
3. Film; the more grain, the better.
4. Natural light; whatever you can get.
5. Aperture; shutter speed is merely a function of aperture, and focus is way overrated.
6. Getting close.
7. Eyes; and what they reveal.
8. Letting a person be themself; not the self they want to be, & not the self you want them to be.
9. Environment; but only the suggestion of environment, the less, the better.
10. Patience; that is, the patience to allow all of these things to come together, & then to slowly squeeze the trigger before the moment passes.
11. Remembering to take off the lens cap, which is short-hand for remembering all of the techical stuff like making sure the camera is not on the "bulb" setting, and remembering to buy a new battery for your light meter every once in awhile.

"it's late afternoon somewhere in the southwest of France, i'm not syruping any French roast coffee ;-) but my eye has just been caught by Mack's new post on flickr. Yay!
Mack loves people and that shows in his soulful portraits.
He is a wonderful dad and it shows on the moving, funny, amazing photographies he does of his two beautiful daughters. I love the stories he tells about hers too.The day they will be all grown-up and mothers, both photographs and stories will mean a world to them.
Mack loves nature and that shows in his marvelous color pinholes.. we mostly see black and white pinholes around and his work makes us wonder why???
Anyway i wanted to say that and other things for a long time but i'm lazy and not very fond of writing testimonials, particularly in English .. i prefer to leave words for others to play with... something Mack does brilliantly too.. thank you for sharing a bit of your world with us Mack. Cheers!"19th October, 2010

"Wayne is one of my favorites. I love his grainy, sincere photos. We share the same photographic ideas with him. He is not searching for the highest sharpness or the accurate focus, he is in the search for something more hidden in the eyes. Thus his photos can reach the soul of the viewer. Inspiring stream, a great talent."

"A soulful artist and friend, Wayne manages to combine images with words, so wehn you see his pictures and read his words, you are automatically transported to his eyes as he saw the photograph. His work is whole spiritual, lyrical, inspiring... whenever i go through his stream, a deep feeling of calmness invades me."

"1. Wayne makes great portraits because he always connects to the eyes, which, as we know, are the gateway to all the really good stuff.
2. i just friggin love when he shoots in color, it's always trippy, fluid fun.
3. Generosity of spirit, as wide as a river, is what flows through all of Wayne's images, as well as his wonderful writing."3rd February, 2009

"If I have to sit here and try to think of any word to explain how I am inspired by his works, his thoughts, there I will be here all my life time to say it all. There are more than anyone can imagine about "believing". He makes you, me, and many others to believe in who we are, and what we can do. He wants you to listen to your voice. I am glad and greatful to be inspired by his thoughts. Thank you, I am appreciated your time."

"Some photograhers see a landscape, a person, an object, and that's all it is to them - just a landscape, just a person, just an object. Wayne's photography runs so much deeper than that - he seems to see down to very soul of a scene. His photography emphasizes and brings to attention the very essence of each and every subject. Wayne finds the 'truth' in each landscape or person - and that truth is always so very beautiful. His vision reaches far, wide, deep. There are no facades to his images. They are true; as a poet shapes a poem into truth with just the right words, so Wayne can shape his ideas and images into a photograph that is alive and vibrant."

"I feel that Wyne (or Mackeson, Mack, Mackesito...: all gods have multiple names) is more than one of my best friends of Flickr's comunnity. It was that way from the very first time I saw one of his deep and vivid portraits. Sometimes I even could swear I know Mack from the golden days when we were dirty boys with gasoline in our veins and a whole world in the eyes. I say it because Wyne and me, like Elvis, Huck and both of us, were friends from childhood... When he writes about his life under one of that moving old photos from the years of ice cream & dreams, I forget his voice and hear mine, ours... He is good person, a great fisherman, an excellent rock and roll listener and, last but not least, one of the best photographers I know all around here... But Mack is especially the soft voice and the good memory I need."

"Wayne is one of the most thoughtful photographers I've come across on flickr, and a true purist who does 'real' film photography using a range of classic cameras. Here are superb black-and-white portraits that express volumes, haunting pinhole landscapes, timeless 'old school' photojournalism and travel photography, and a collection of superb images from the past which bring to life the history of the last fifty or sixty years. His commentary is always thought-provoking and complements the images perfectly. Wayne's photostream is always an eye-opener."
