I got my first SLR about 15 years ago. It was Canon A1. It was obsolete then, no autofocus for instance (it wasn't EOS), but I learned the basics of photography with it. The 101 of exposure - ASA, aperture, shutter speed and what they mean. However, I was often dissappointed by my photos, and learning was slow because I couldn't take a lot of photos because developing them was expensive.
I got my first DSLR in 2003, Canon EOS 300D, which taught me lots, and I've got plenty more of clicks behind me now.
After years of using Canon gear I switched to Nikon D700 and I am loving it the more I use it. Nowadays I am mainly interested in lighting techniques and I have purchased multiple flash units and radio triggers to play with.
