My work derives from my desire to portray Palestine’s tangible and intangible elements and my exploration of the self: the struggle between one and his surroundings, looking for freedom’s truths. Freedom and truth, these beautiful things…surely one day we will find them.
The Israeli Occupation and massacres have not only destroyed generations of Palestinians but also their ambitions.
Under Occupation, days are prolonged, yet at the same time shortened. Food and drink have no taste, and time played tricks within the walls of the miserable camps of the living dead.
Somehow, the agony and suffering kindled, instead of prevented, expression of feelings via art. In me, it awakened a compulsion to paint and photograph, to express what I see, feel, live.
As a Palestinian artist living in a refugee camp and still now walking in its mazes, I document my denial, and that of all refugees, to the reality of death, destruction and misery by my artistic expression of refusal, accompanied with the continuous yearning for change.
This is my daily story, and I want to reach people outside of Palestine, reach minds and hearts and overcome the mazes.
The camera lens is the artist’s eye. It stops time somewhere, captures a reality which demands witnessing.
As a Palestinian artist, I must raise my voice to keep questioning this life, seeking change.
