Ordinary joe, archive fan, love anything steamy, sulphuric and gaseous - gloomy, misty wayside halts, the sound of a signal arm dropping after the train departs, coal fire in the guards van, cotton waste, leather suitcases with old holiday stickers and anything before Dr.Beeching.
I suppose my main aim is to bring interesting railway archive images from regional photographers to a wider audience, there are lots of evocative shots from the steam era hidden away that no one ever sees.
If the book isn't opened you don't see the picture.

"I would just like to say thanks to John, i think he does a fantastic job here on flickr.
John might not be the most active photographer on flickr, but the work he does to help other people research is second to non.
John has a keen interest in the railways of a bygone era.
He says himself that he loves anything steamy, wayside halts, coal fire in the guards van, and the sound of a signal arm dropping after the train departs, And who can blame him, his description alone evokes memories of pure nostalgia.
John keeps a look out for any local interests going on with other flickr members. Always on the ball, he will find some on topic, and evocative archive shots to help, and compliment that work.
John has helped, and supported me considerably over the last few years.
I commend him to all.
Keep up the good work John.
Cheers! :-)"7th August, 2010
