Photography has always been, and still is an integral part of my family. During the early twentieth century my grandfather, August von Holten, set up his own photography studio in Germany. Similarly, my father, Johann von Holten, developed images during the 1940’s and 1950’s. I too started in photography by developing black and white images. Currently, both my son and I are working with digital images.

Due to a strong interest in plants, gardens, wildflowers, and a background in botanical illustration, my photography interests are primarily focused on nature whether botanicals or landscapes. For both interests, I attempt to bring those images to paper that may have been seen and admired but then pass too quickly through our lives.

Whether water and reflections, spring wildflowers, fall foliage, beach or mountain scenes, my photography aims for graceful, serene, and simple images that calm the mind. Whether landscapes or close up, I hope to create visual statements that express the harmony and balanced patterns found in nature.

Thousands of notecards with my images have been sold in Carrboro, North Carolina.
