I'm totally passionate about Photography. I seem to have owned some sort of camera since the age of 8.

I specialise in shooting Fashion, Portraiture, and Weddings. I love working with people and will spend as much time and care in crafting artistic images that all parties will be happy with. I'm based in Southampton, Hampshire.

I believe it's not just about skill and technical ability (which I'm always looking to expand), it's also about the psychology that exists between subject and photographer at the precise moment the shutter opens. I don't understand Photographers who shout at their subjects, somehow believing this makes a better photograph. I think the onus is on the Photographer to draw out the best from his subject without undue pressure whether shooting fashion, weddings or portraits. If you're relaxed, you'll take a better picture. If you're happy, it might be better still, but this depends on the mood you wish to create. As for the technical stuff, I shoot with both the 5d and the new 5d II (which is an amazing instrument) and try to only use prime lenses for the best quality possible.

I read once, 'people do not live in rooms with white backgrounds' and I think there is currently a big shift away from traditional white or black background studio photography. In 2009, I made a conscious decision to try and get out of the studio and into what I call 'real world locations'. These are the everyday locations that we sometimes overlook. I won't deny a studio can be just what is required and lighting can be wonderful, but if you can take your lights with you, or explore the gift of natural light, there are greater possibilities and maybe more interesting locations to shoot. And maybe just occasionally we can tilt traditional views or locations on their head and venture into 'concept photography'. My creative aspirations are to carry on fusing landscape and portrait together to create unique pictures. I'm only just scratching the surface:

I adore Fashion photography and for glamour will even stretch to the occasional pouting lip and heaving bossom, but I am against images that dumb down women.

Clients, fellow artists, or models are welcome. The reason I joined Flickr was to learn, to exchange tips and share with my fellow photographers. Don't be surprised if you get blocked because you don't have any photos, belong to some pretty unpleasant groups, and add me as a friend. If you want to favourite my work because you're thinking of a potential project, please let me know. If I've added you as a 'friend contact', don't be alarmed, it's just so that you can view my images at larger than they first appear.

All my photographs are protected under international copyright laws. For the record: Photographs may not be reproduced, copied, stored, or manipulated in any form without my consent. The JPGs here are very lossy anyway! Licensing options are available for commercial use, please contact me vial email at nicklayton2003@hotmail.com

    Antoine Chaze says:

"Nick is probably one of the kindest person here on Flickr.
Of course, he does a great job in photography, showing variety, originality and lot of skills, but he's also the guy who left a constructive comment on your picture.
To talk more about his work, I really like his approach about portrait. All pictures show a great mastery and a deep respect to his models."

    CARJO Photography (Brisbane, AUS) says:

"I love the way that Nick approaches portraiture, especially glamour portraits. They are sophisticated in that I can read a lot from the way the photos are made; and insightful in that you can read a lot from how the model is portrayed and hence catch a short glimpse of their soul.

I learn by rote: being able to see these things in a photo (and then post the multi-paragraph comment outlining such bites of technical wisdom) is helpful to me as I learn the art of portraiture myself. If you're starting out in portraiture and think that the sophistication of classical portraiture and the digital photography revolution are not mutually exclusive, then Nick's stream is worth keeping an eye on."
