I am a Spanish professor who teaches Latin American Literature and Culture, Spanish language classes, and also writing and conversation courses. I also love Portuguese. I have visited various Latin American countries, and have lived in Guatemala City, Mexico City, and Campinas, Brazil. I enjoy exposing my students to Latin American reality through literature, music, film, art, and especially photography. Some photographers who I hope to study more and learn from include Sebastião Salgado, David Alan Harvey, and Miguel Rio Branco. I have also enjoyed seeing many of the great artists I have visited on this Flickr site. To be honest, almost anything focusing on Latin America, the U.S./Mexico borderlands, and the concept of cultural hybridity--fascinates me. More and more, photography is beginning to be one of the main ways I look at and try to interpret the world. It works both ways--observing others photos, and also trying to express what I see, experience, and feel through my own shots.
