I have been into photography for 4 years now and it has quickly become my number one hobby. It all started when I inherited a Nikon 5700 from my father. I don't post my equipment in my profile, because I don't feel that it matters all that much. While I will admit to enjoying the latest cool camera or lens, I believe that too many people think that an expensive camera and a ton of megapixels will automatically make them great images. I work as a Unix/Linux Systems Administrator with a bit of networking as well. I'm a huge Reggae music fan.

What is photography really?

I will leave you with a quote from my favorite photographer these days, because I couldn't put it any better than he does....

"It's less talk, more making photographs. Do that, and do it hard. An then tomorrow, do it again. And as long as you love doing that more than something else, you'll have filled your days and fed your soul with something you love. And to do that, by almost any sane definition, is to have succeeded."

*** Flickr Rant (read if your bored) ***

I don't go collecting contacts just to have contacts, but at the same time, if someone adds me, I feel that it's also respectful to add them back. It's easy to filter your contacts by marking people as friends or family. I do admit to doing this, but I don't use the filtered view all that much. I generally look through the first 5 or so pages of recent contact photos, and comment on the ones that catch my eye.

The majority of people here on flickr don't take well to constructive criticism, and I don't really understand it. If people tell you everyone of your photos is excellent when they really aren't then you will never learn anything from others. I really like it when people honestly critique my photos. One of the best ways to learn is by taking advice from people who are better than you at something. Please feel free to tell me exactly how you feel about any of my pics.

I suppose I like it when one of my photos gets into "Explore", but I don't pay it too much mind; often times my favorites don't even make it...

When I first started with flickr I was invited to a few different groups that tag comments with a huge image. I have since removed myself from these groups and gone through and cleaned these bogus comments out of my stream. I got sick of having to sift through all the junk to see the real sincere comments. Most of the time these people don't even bother leaving any comments, but just clutter up your stream with their bunk group image... Please don't bother inviting me to any of these groups.

"If you've seen his images, you know already that Jesse is a absolutely incredible photographer. Creative and talented, I always look forward to seeing what he has come up with during his latest adventure. I'm always amazed at how he continues to find special light, and I know that is not by accident. Dedication, patience, and a great eye all converge to give Jesse's images that extra "something" that separates him from the pack. I've seen his images published many times in some of the top photography magazines in the world, so clearly I am not alone in recognizing his talent.

What you might not know about Jesse is that he is a terrific guy. He gives his time selflessly to help people learn to enjoy art and nature, and I've been privileged to have spent time shooting with him. As wonderful as it is to be a great photographer, Jesse should be much more proud of the fact that he is a great person. Spend some time in his photostream.... I guarantee you will enjoy it."

"His shots reveal a great attention to the detail, aiming to create a connection between the spectator and the reality of his works. You'll never see an image without a precise purpose, a meaning, an accurate choice of time and space. Improving his talented skills working on the meaning of his pictures will be his key to success"

" I've been living in the Pacific NW for a while and I absolutely love it here because of its vast and versatile beauty. Jesse has succeeded in doing what I believe to be extremely difficult to do -- which is, capturing the amazing landscapes in this part of the world in a way that truly does them justice. Bravo! Keep up the excellent work. Your photos are very inspirational."

"Jesse Estes has been on my contacts for a long time. His photographs are the kind of work that will be worth lots of money years from now, when people finally understand them. Not that they're very abstract or puzzling in any way, it's just a lot to take in sometimes, all that beauty.

I have one such pic as my desktop background, since he was brave enough to give us large versions. The best artists are those who do not want to hide away their dreams, but those who want to show them to you, every day.

Thanks for posting your photos, mate. You're something else.

"I absolutely love landscape photography and Jesse is one of the best landscape photographers I have seen on Flickr. As a novice in the art of landscape photography, I find myself returning to his photostream again and again for inspiration. He is also one of the friendliest photographers on Flickr, ready with advice for the beginner.

One of the reasons I love Flickr so much is people like Jesse."

"It is'nt easy to write a testimony for a person that we know only by his photography. The quality of Jesse's gallery shows well its mastery of nature photography and it, in many domains. I am a fan of his work which for me is a reference, a source of inspiration and motivation.
    Very friendly.

    Bien amicalement."

With thought and attention to detail, his landscapes take on a well-composed, poised aspect, and illustrate the Pacific Northwest in unique and gorgeous ways. I thank him for continuing to offer up some amazing work."

Jesse is also a great contact who always gives really thoughtful and useful feedback on your photos and is always ready to answer any questions you may have... especially about polarizing filters :-)

Anyway, stop reading this now and go and check out his stream!"

"Jesse's pictures are the kind that pop out of a crowd of photos, even before you know who took them. The variety and quality is incredible, and there's some real thought and soul behind them. He also happens to take pictures of the places I love too (like Portland and Banff), setting me daydreaming about visits I've made and new places to go. I'm so glad to share his experiences through his photos, and look forward to many more adventures to come."
