My first camera was a Rival 35mm that didn't have an attached rangefinder. I used a separate rangefinder attached to the flash shoe. I was about 12 years old, had a Weston light meter, and still have the slides I took at Disneyland when it first opened! My next camera was a 2-1/4 square Ricohflex (twin lens) which took very sharp pictures. By the time I was in my 20's, I had my Nikon F and was steeped in B&W and doing all my own darkroom work. Years later, I got into medium format, 6x7, and 4x5. I was known to carry into the woods a 4x5, tripod, light meter and fill flash with only two sheets of cut film. A lot of work for two pics! I was always extremely disciplined, perhaps because of my music training. Back in those days, I wanted to do some color darkroom work and became very frustrated with the chemistry, temperature control, etc... I gave it up for about 15 years and started up again with digital. I've kept all my medium and large format cameras including a Rollieflex, Crown Graphic, Bush Pressman, and three Linhofs! Finally, Nikon developed the 24mm PC-E, which gives you tremendous control over perspective because the lens can tilt and shift. Alas, I can think of selling the big stuff, because "digital" can accomplish nearly everything I wanted to do with film.
