I have been taking photos for years - ever since my brother gave me his old manual Zenit camera. You had to concentrate then - no auto anything! Break out the Weston light meter and set the aperture and shutter manually.

Progressed through a series of Canon film SLRs until I went digital and treated myself to an EOS 350D last year. Great move - it has given me a renewed interest in photography. Its great to be able to see the results instantly. I know some people say it makes you lazy, but I think it helps you learn from your mistakes more quickly.

I bought myself a couple of photography books at Christmas: 'Light in the Landscape' by Peter Watson and 'Working the Light: Landscape photography masterclass' by Eddie Ephraums & others. What an inspiration! It taught me that you don't have to wait for a nice sunny day to go out and take photos. I went out in the freezing cold, howling wind and near darkness and was rewarded with far more interesting results.
