goddessofxanadu - View my most interesting photos on Flickriver

Hey, I'm Laura

Im a photo grad of Thames Valley Uni in Reading. Im just starting out in my Photography career - I do social and corporate photography to earn a crust, as well as some photo journalism.

I have a passion for the great history making images of the 20th century, and am fascinated by documentary footage of the world and Vietnam wars.
My favorite shooters are in no particular order..Capa,Larry Burrows, Phillip Jones-Griffith,Don Mc Cullen, Tom Stoddart, Mary Ellen Mark, Zoriah Miller. Theres loads more.

Many of my images are from India where I spend a couple of months each year shooting for image libraries, and hopefully, if anyone will publish it, for an embryonic book about the hopes and dreams of the ordinary people of India I meet on my travels. I love the country and her people, it is the place in the world where I feel most at home, and where my heart is, even if my body is in the grumpy, rain-sodden UK for most of the year.

I like to give some background to my pictures, as when I look at images, I always long to know the story behind them, so I usually provide a little copy to go along side my images. With that in mind I'd like to apologise if I get anyones name or details wrong - please let me know if I have, and I'll sort it.

One last thing...I don't like auto comments, awards or flashy graphics. I wont give them, and I'd rather not get them.
Relationships are ephemeral enough on line without sinking to that tragic level. I value intelligent, thoughtful feedback and will endeavor to return the complement.

Thanks for visiting and enjoy.

"Laura is a seasoned photographer to be reckoned with. Her street and portrait photography is among the very best on Flickr and commands vast respect. Her fantastic collection of images from India first attracted me to her stream and her overall talent as a photographer, warm nature and fantastic sense of humor keeps me glued to my screen waiting to see her next work of art hit the streets.

Fantastic work Laura, keep it coming :-)"

    Beyond the Trail [Gary] says:

"Extraordinary photos by an extraordinary photographer. A deep love for India -- a special connection to people and place -- make for one memorable and moving image after another. Sam Abell summed it up when he said that what it really comes down to is the "intensity of the photographer's seeing" -- think that's certainly the case here! With humor and grace -- reality touched with mystery -- her photos transform -- challenge -- burn in the mind long after the connection ends and the screen goes dark."

    Syd's Photography says:

"I've known Laura now for over a quarter of a century. We went through nurse training together which was quite an experience and loads of laughs. Laura's dad was one of the coolest cops I've ever come across, her mum is lovely and her sister Claire is cool too. Laura has been into photography for many years and having had the privilege to view her photographs I can attest to her expertise. Laura is very widely travelled and her shots from India and Asia are outstanding. Laura has a great sense of humour too. I am certain that Laura will make her mark in flickrland and become incredibly popular as both a photographic artist, friend and occasional philosopheress. Check out Laura's photostream at www.ephotozine.com too! There she is known as Kali.

Welcome to the flickr galaxy Laura ~ May the force be ever with you."
