Dr. Adedayo Osholowu graduated from the College of Medicine of the University of Lagos and was awarded a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery Degree in 2006. He choose Sports Medicine and the Exercise Sciences for his professional focus during his forth year of Medical School. He captained his College Basketball team for three years and personal experiences helped shape his understanding of the need to develop the specialty to serve the large number of amateur and elite athletes in the region. In his fifth year he visited the New York Presbyterian & Columbia University Center for Shoulder, Elbow and Sports Medicine to observe the work of Dr. Louise Bigliani Professor of Orthopedic Surgery. While at Columbia Dr Bigliani commented that “Dayo has demonstrated a high degree of proficiency and is a very dedicated individual who showed great enthusiasm and a propensity to absorb as much knowledge in the short span of time”.

He returned to Lagos to complete his final year of Medical School, during this year he spent most of his free time working with the Sports Medicine Center at the National Stadium Lagos, Nigeria. During his time at the center he quickly learned that with the high cost of modern sports medicine, a development of a more cost effective “preventive sports medicine” was the future of the Specialty in the region. Dr Dayo Osholowu is currently an independent Sports and Exercise Medicine Clinician Scientist based in
Lagos Nigeria. His principal goal is to find out clinical problems that need to be addressed in Sports Medicine in the Sub Saharan African region and also for opportunities to provide new clinical products and services to solve these problems.

He is currently the Clinical Director of the Special Olympics International Healthy Athletes Program in Nigeria. He was recently selected to serve as a Medical Officer at the FIFA 2010 World Cup South Africa and was honored by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Jonathan Goodluck at the 2009 Nigerian Young Professional Of the Year.
