toryporter (away... AGAIN!)'s photostream  

If you are (or want to be) my contact, please let me know if you want constructive criticism on your photostream... and please do not ask to be my contact if you have too many contacts to pay attention to all of them. I try to view my contacts uploads AT LEAST (usually more often) every 2 to 3 days except when on travel. Many thanks to all who visit and comment and offer constructive suggestions to improve my work.

I'm a third generation photographer...
- paternal grandfather owned/operated Porter's Studio in Houlton Maine
- uncle (godfather; father's younger brother) and aunt (godmother) with whom I lived while in college owned/operated Porter's Studio and Photo Supplies in Falls Church, VA for over 25 years before selling it some time in the '70s

Before discovering the wonders of digital photography (you mean I can take a bazillion photos and throw out the no good ones??? what a concept!), used a wide variety of film cameras over the years... favorite was the Nikkormat used from 1969 to 1981 when it was stolen. Have since used Pentax, Canon, and a newer Nikon SLR (always come back to Nikon).

My current digital equipment ...
Nikon D90:
- 18-55mm kit lens
- 55-200mm kit lens
- 70-300mm Nikkor AF-S lens
- 105mm f/2.8 Nikkor Micro VR lens
- Tamron SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 DiII
Used three of the Nikon Coolpix series cameras (the P1, P4 and P80) before purchasing my Nikon D90 ... am becoming less happy with the color, clarity and overall look of my earlier photos so am gradually reducing the number of photos in my stream by removing older photos.

New to regular posting on Flickr since mid-January, 2009... photos posted elsewhere include:
- vacation/travel blog Vacations and other musings includes travel notes for January 2009 trip to Costa Rica with friends, April 2009 trip to visit family in OR/WA, July-Aug 2009 trip to Australia and New Zealand and so on into the future...
- A Photography Addict's Showcase... has appeared courtesy of blogspot... (ambitions were to post a photo a day but I've been a bit lax about doing that)
- selected photos collected into albums on Picasa to avoid flooding Flickr with complete stories of vacation travel but provide others who like that sort of thing with representative shots from trips or other events
- Mac gallery parties, weddings, family
- Facebook... Flickr stream is linked to Facebook profile
- Photoblog is mostly quiet because haven't decided whether I want to pay for a shutterchance membership. :-)
