Travel and photography have been 2 of my favorite things to do. In photography, I've leaned towards the people of the countries I've traveled through. You can see this reflected in my pictures. I've tended to go the more rural route when in the 3rd world countries. Interacting with the locals in their environment, walking, sharing, eating with them. Seeing how they dress, cook, sleep, and all aspects of their local culture. Capturing the differences in how we go about our daily life is what I focus on. Markets of the world are also another topic I like. Storefronts. Seeing the items that are sold in their part of the world, helps define a culture I think. You have to be there, interact with the people, converse, play with the children, they just love it. On a river trip deep in the Amazonas area in Venezuela, I was the only person who played with the children in this small riverside village. I made up a simple game of swinging them around by their arms, like I use to have done to me as a child. They would line up and I'd swing one at a time, then that one would run to the end and I'd do the next one. We all laughed together and even though we didn't speak the same language there was a connection. They were following me around all over their village. I have the most wonderful pictures of these kids. What did the other people do? They remained in the house we used to hang our hammocks staying out of the rain. It is all about the people, the faces and the culture.

I seem to take simple straightforward pictures. Nice composition, yet simple. This is what you see. Nothing fancy. Many may not be the most fantastic photos, many are just snapshots of the place and moment. I think they can give you a sense of place, what it looks like this way, what it looks like when you look that way.
