Above photo taken by my boyfriend, Sion Fullana

I've been taking NYC street photos with my iPhone for several years now. My work has been published in magazines and exhibited in galleries, and I was one of 10 winners in a photo contest that had over 10,000 entries. I'll be talking about my iPhone work at the SoHo Apple Store in NYC on June 30th, 2011 at 7pm.

Most of my photos have some human element to them, as that is what interests me the most. I'm not really interested in "technically perfect" photos. I'm much more interested in a photo's subject matter. Does it invoke an emotion? Does it make you laugh, cry, or make you think? It has to be MORE than just pretty for me -- so for my OWN photos, I mainly focus on capturing REAL people. Hopefully I can get them in "a moment" and not just their daily routine. I especially enjoy taking pictures that can tell some kind of story.

I mainly take pics with my iPhone, because it's easy and convenient. I also occasionally use a point-and-shoot, or sometimes borrow my boyfriend Sion's more advanced cameras -- but that's rare.

I love living in the best city on Earth: NYC. So the majority of my pics will reflect my life here. For a while, some of my pics were self-portraits -- since I was challenging myself to take more pics of myself. I still take them, but they have moved to my other account which I share with Sion.

Hope you enjoy what you see here, and please leave comments as I love to hear them!

    Daniel Smith Photography says:

"Anton's work really speaks for itself. He is an excellent observer of human nature down in the streets of New York and never ceases to capture that decisive moment we all look for in a portrait. He is also not afraid to turn the camera back on himself and show us the life him and Sion lead. His work exubes emotion and narrative and it is a sheer joy to see what he will capture next. I am gratefull to have found his stream and am honoured to be called a contact. Anton, keep up the good work!"

    Fanboy30 says:

"An honest man, one never to shy away from making a fool of himself or telling the world how annoyed or scared he is about something. Along with his boyfriend Sion, they show us the real New York and all its colorful glory and gritty undertones.
Anton is probably one of the strongest people I have come into contact (in a virtual sense) and its that strength which I admire. Sometimes events in our lives give us more reason to live and fight for what we want. Just from visiting his photostream I am more comfortable with who I am. So I would like to thank him for that with this testimonial.

One last thing that is very important about Anton is that he is a geek, he has my dream job which he claims is hard but come on how difficult is it to read comics all day :P"

    Sion Fullana's photography says:

"When I started on Flickr (and got immediately addicted to it) almost a year ago, my boyfriend Anton used to make fun of me about it and how obsessed I was with it. Months later, he opened this account... and promised he would never be of the ones posting daily and getting hooked to it... How glad I am he couldn't stick to his word...

For a trip to Anton's photostream is an open window to a New York only seen by the keen soul of a true New Yorker who loves his city and the people that walk and breathe it. I love to realize how day after day Anton is climbing a new step with his photography, drifting away from his initial insecurities and achieving poetic, interesting and compelling fragments of reality, full of a heart only rivaled by his own.

And the facts that he's relying only (or mostly) on his iPhone to do so, and that he has to break through the disadvantage that walking in his crutches may have for his steady pulse, make me admire him and his style even more."

    i love you beaucoup says:

"Anton's photography exhibits an incredible sense of emotion, each image capturing not so much a moment in time as an entire storybook full of sentiments and concepts. Perhaps his photography is impacted by his work (at DC Comics), with every photo acting as a frame through which Anton weaves intricate narrations. His use of "only" an iPhone or a point-and-shoot camera allows for the capture of most heartfelt, honest, and reticent of moments, something which lenses and camera bodies often prove incapable of. Without a doubt, these photos are some of the most striking I have seen."

    DeadBetty in Hawaii says:

"Let me start off first by saying: He has the BEST porn name ever. I mean really. Anton Kawasaki. It's like, the best foreign porn name ever, so you know, it's classy even.

As for the photographs...phenomenal, sweet, touching, fabulous, real, (not reality tv real, the real world real), moving, and thought provoking.

From his PHONE. He takes better pictures with his PHONE than I do with my camera. I am a huge fan of his and he has me almost completely convinced that he is a huge fan of mine as well with very thoughtful and genuine kind words. Definitely a photostream worth stalking."

    Christoph Christoph says:

"Anton works wonders with his little iPhone. I find his street images so compelling, the characters he spots are exquisite and unique. To me his images capture the softness and innocence on the streets of NYC, which is a side of NY that I think is so rarely seen. I think Anton's work is proof that the old maxim 'it ain't the tools, it's the talent' is alive and well. Really, really nice work."
