My blog
My first camera was given to me by my father at the age of 10 and I loved taking pictures. Apparently I was pretty good at it because my father claimed some of my pictures as his own ;-) Because developing costs were more than I could afford with my limited allowance I stopped taking pictures and more or less forgot I was ever interested in photography.
I am artistically inclined and have dabbled in a lot of things but I could not find anything that I was very passionate about. During a crisis in my life, I asked myself ‘what was I passionate about when I was a child?’ and then the ball started rolling and has been doing so ever since.
You can understand and relate to most people better if you look at them -- no matter how old or impressive they may be -- as if they are children. For most of us never really grow up or mature all that much -- we simply grow taller. O, to be sure, we laugh less and play less and wear uncomfortable disguises like adults, but beneath the costume is the child we always are, whose needs are simple, whose daily life is still best described by fairy tales.

In 1999 I bought my first SLR (film) and my significant other and I went on shoots every weekend. It was rather costly and disappointing to see that with every shoot only a few pictures were really any good. I bought my first second hand digital camera, a Canon G3 in 2005 and have been hooked ever since. In 2006 my mother gave me a Canon Digital Rebel XT for my birthday and I am eternally grateful for that! I followed a course last November so I could learn how my camera works among other things. I learned a lot from that but have also learned a lot from my Flickr friends with all the tips, tricks and friendly advice I have been given.
I love working with Photoshop and have joined some artistic groups (Man Ray, Disciples of the Roving Heart, 2B on the other side, Hour of the Diamond Light etc) so that my fantasy has plenty of room to create something entirely different.
When you look at my pictures it is my hope that you to feel the same awe and wonder of life as I do, that you begin to notice the things we often overlook because we get so caught up in the rat race.
When you look at my photographic artwork it is my hope that you stop and think about what I am trying to convey or simply enjoy it for what it is.
All children are artists. The problem is how to remain an artist once he grows up.

I would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to look at my stream and give me comments. They mean a lot to me. Please do not be offended if you make me a contact and I do not return the favor. It is my wish to keep a small network so that I can build relationships with my Flikcr friends and give thoughtful comments and suggestions - with too many contacts I don’t think I will be able to do so.
I have stopped participating in groups that make it obligatory to fave or comment another photo because being obligated to fave and/or make a comment goes against my nature.
Freedom is not merely the opportunity to do as one pleases; neither is it merely the opportunity to choose between set alternatives. Freedom is, first of all, the chance to formulate the available choices, to argue over them -- and then, the opportunity to choose.

Olga Gerrard says:
"Gerla has a special link with LIFE. She captures a hidden light most do not see, she envelopes the viewer with what I can only describe as Love which emanates from each image she shares with us. And she expresses this love in myriad forms – all imbued with a richness of detail and light. LIGHT – her other special bond, which allows her to manifest gorgeous, ripe, lush imagery. Her photography introduces us to her spirit as it cannot be hidden – her photography, each image, contains her artistic breath and heart. Warmth, technique, compassion, caring, it is all there, and comes from the woman who captures moments of our world as no other can. Thank you, Gerla, for the inspiration you share."

"wood! from wood and with wood. in shape of tree, or already as paper. in a landscape with lots of them together, or just a solitaire one. a wood box in decay lost at the beach. wood as tree and roots on earth that Gerla make it float. wood as tree and branchs and Gerla is there, naked or dressed (the tree and the branches!). but Gerla's nakedness is here too, the inner one. genuine. honest. learning and teaching and sharing. smiling and worried. warm as only wood can be. in winter, with snow or rain, in white or green here u can c warmth. the genuin wood warmth that Gerla always shares with us. this Gerla's stream is a warm-heart fireplace where the wood never gets burn... Gerla will plant one and another new tree for us. always. with care...
... with a tremedous sense-smile of aesthetic... the pure one :)"9th January, 2008

www.flemming-gade.dk says:
"Gerla is a multi talented artist!
She has a great eye for photography. She knows when to press the shutter button, she masters the settings of the camera to perfection, - and she knows where to point her lense, how to compose and how to frame her images.
I believe that Gerla would get some great images straight from the box, - but her skills and talent goes far beyound that.
Gerla is a master in post processing, what everyone who visit her photostream will agree on, - I'm sure!
But she never over process her images. She does it right to the point where she gets the image she had planned when pressing the shutter.
Creativity, quality and a strong artistic sense makes Gerla one of my favorite artists on Flickr.
There's one thing I don't like about Gerla ;-) If I in the morning check what Gerla did the night before, I am late at work ;-)
If you know Gerla, you will also know that she is a wonderful woman, with a great sense of humour.
Gerla, - I am happy to know you, - happy to be your friend!"20th June, 2007

"Gerla is easily my favorite person on flickr. Never met a kinder soul in my life. But this is about great image creation and that is where Gerla shines. About three months ago, it looked as though someone just threw a handgrenade in Gerla's PhotoStream! BAM!!! And she went straight from good snapshots to art...overnight!!! Breathtaking is the word. Soft gentle imagery that harkens back to the dream days of our childhood. Her imagery evokes memory, joy and peace. This is the lady to watch in the coming year!
