About my mixed-media art:
Darlene Charneco’s mapping series looks at people, networks, homes, and communities as part of a larger organism's growth stage. Clusters of houses sharing or sequestering resources and shorelines are pondered as sustainability experiments within imaginary petri dishes. Ms. Charneco’s works take wonder in ‘where we are’ while exploring mnemonic and technological tools that allow us to grow our networks and broaden our sense of community. She imagines humanity’s overlapping experiences and shared interests creating new interactive maps of possibilities- hopeful that vital local and global challenges can be more collaboratively solved. A resident of Long Island,NY, she has shown and lectured at numerous museums and galleries, including Morgan Lehman in Chelsea, the Katonah, Islip, Hunterdon and Hecksher Museums. Her works are featured in CARTOGRAPHY: Artists + Maps, by Katharine A Harmon, published by Princeton Architectural Press in Sept 2009.

In addition to her mapping works, the artist maintains an ongoing studio practice of hammered nail prayers and weaves...works from this ongoing series are viewable in the set of that name.

Featuring the work of young Latino artists, this exhibition explores a variety of themes including the connections between friends and families and their neighborhoods. Photography, painting, installation, sculpture, and video illustrate the dreams, memories, celebrations, and everyday acts of people in their native or adopted communities. Despite life in the digital age, these relationships remain central to the creation of strong social and cultural bonds. El Museo del Barrio is pleased to honor the ideas that bind neighbors, friends, and families.
