Bio of Shehab:
Shehab Uddin came from a middle class family in Khulna, Bangladesh. His interests lie in socio-political documentation. Having worked as a newspaper photographer for more than eight years, he took steps of giving up the security and material comforts of a stable job and joined in Drik Picture Library in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
His work as a photographer in Drik gives him the freedom to practice his craft in the way he believes it should be practiced. In questioning the mainstream, he is taking the further risk of alienating himself from his immediate surroundings. This organization makes him confront the global issues and compels him to form a vision that can bring about changes to lives in the majority world. He believes that his visual imagination has a liberating role with an active political participation of people of the world.
After working as an assistant lecturer in the College of Journalism and Mass Communication in Kathmandu, Nepal, he took admission in Pathshala, the South Asian Institute of Photography in Dhaka, as a student of graduation in photojournalism.
A Panos media fellow, Shehab is more comfortable working in areas that involve emotion and values. His work on different projects in various countries has been exhibited and published globally. He has won several awards in the field of photography and journalism eg with WHO, ASAHI Shimbun & IIPC, FIAP.
