About Me:

"Even the most every day object can be interesting if only the perspective is changed from the every day view."
~~ Me

My most favorite quote of all time and one that speaks volumes to me:
"We have not even to risk the journey alone; for the heroes of all time have gone before us; the labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path. And where we had thought to find an abomination, we shall find a god; where we had thought to slay another, we shall slay ourselves; where we had thought to travel outward, we shall come to the center of our own existence; where we had thought to be alone, we shall be with all the world."
~~ Joseph Campbell, The Hero With A Thousand Faces

I am currently living in Frederick, Maryland, USA. A place that I hope to stay for a while. I have lived around in a number of different places, the furthest of which (from my hometown in Glencoe, Maryland) was Centralia, Washington. I do miss living on the west coast. Perhaps, I can look forward to relocating in my retirement years.

I am an amateur photographer that takes pictures when I get the opportunity, which is usually when I am traveling, but sometimes due to me just taking the time. I always have my digital camera with me to catch that random event. I use a Canon EOS Digital Rebel XT. I recently bought a Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Autofocus Lens and have been having great fun learning how to use it. It is a terrific step up from the $50 kit lens that came with the camera. Here is a picture of it (courtesy of B & H Photo):

In my professional life I work in the computer mapping industry. It has seemed like such a good fit for me.

Place is my inner spirit.

When I look back on my life, I can remember places I have been so much more readily than times, dates or names. I enjoy traveling, exploring, and generally discovering new and exciting things. The world as I see it, while all of it has likely been set foot on, is there to be personally explored, experienced.

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy browsing and comment freely.

Countries I have set foot in:

US States I have set foot in

create your own visited states map

Since I was unable to find an interactive source on the web for breaking the US states down to a lower common denominator (in this case counties), I created this map myself using ArcGIS. Note that in the map above it, I have highlighted all of the US states that I have set foot in and it looks like I have traveled a lot, but when shown by county, it is obvious that I have more to explore. To date (as of 22.October.2007), I have traveled to 722 of 5997 counties (and other like-geographic entities) in the US.

Music:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although a good friend tells me that this is impossible - I would say that I enjoy ALL music -- though some of it is more "challenging" than others. My personal goal is to not let music leave me behind. I don't want to become that "old guy who only likes his generation of music." I try to stay open to all styles and interpretations. To me that is the nature of artistic expression - that any interpretation of reality is art. In my view, that concept easily spills over into musical expression.
