Ying56 (very busy)'s photostream
|
When I can feel the subject's presence on the street,
and I begin to feel that a photograph is inevitable,
I simply raise my camera and click. That's my method.
But I've begun this year to make photographs where the feeling of the photo is about what I cannot express
in words nor state with the sharpness of the lens. They are
glimpses of feelings inside me that I cannot categorize. If I could find a face or a composition that would do it, I would get a view camera and tripod and just make a huge negative, so that's certainly not it at all. For these glimpses, the simplest of cameras is sometimes more than sufficient (or not).

Lincoln ~ says:
"Davi is one of the most innovative photographers in Flickr. He always modified his cameras in an unique way. "Huh, you can do that?" I asked myself many times while looking at his gears."

Shachi Sitaram says:
"I don't quite remember when I first saw David's remarkable photostream, but I do know it made an instant impression. It made me look with new eyes at the world of street photography, a part of the photography universe I had always ignored. Whether David is capturing a candid moment in B&W with total clarity or allowing us a glimpse into another dimension through his grainy and moody images, what always stands out is his uncanny timing, his ability to see the interesting in the ordinary, and his capacity to juxtapose places and people to reveal their spirit.
Any street in any city anywhere in the world has its own character, but the way human life plays out on them is so similar no matter where you are. David's images bring this out beautifully. As for those photos he shoots with those weird yet wonderful contraptions he calls cameras... They are so ethereal and enigmatic, I am sure all of us look for hidden meanings and arrive at varying and fascinating conclusions.
Keep shooting, David, and keep enthralling us."20th February, 2012

"David uses his talents to create new gear in a very innovative manner which I find incredibly awesome but even more than that David knows street photography. I am constantly inspired by his ability to capture an interesting moment in time in an artistic manner. I love street photography and David is outstanding in this challenging art."

"David (Ying) has a very distinct style, harsch contrasts, unusual angles and strange crops. He has a good eye and appears not to be afraid of living on the edge. He's also somewhat of a magician when it comes to building and customising camera's and other weird contraptions to make photo's with.
Interesting guy with an interesting stream, allways a joy to see what pops up the next time"15th February, 2012

David Mor says:
"When I first stumbled upon David ( Ying)'s photostream, I first laid my eye on his peculiar technique. He is a true experimentalist who combines old and new and designs, making something unique from scratch. He is a photographer who not only loves to take pictures but one who dares to break though the barriers of photography as a medium that records people and events. Many of his photos require us, the viewers, to engage in a new vision, a seemingly blurred and unfocused photo may have thoughtful and deep meaning as a work with multiple layers that we have to peel off one after another. I am therefore glad to follow his work anxiously, to be surprised, and being in wonder about what could be his next contrivance"

Mamoru Yasuda says:
"Every time I visit David (Ying56)'s photostream, I am amazed at how his point of view/shooting style changes from single photo to another. He could surprise you with his unique low angle (waist level, no looking at the LCD, maybe?) shots in a beautiful B&W street photo, and the very next day, he will surprise you once again with his rather cinematic, mysterious color street shot with his beloved vintage cameras. It is just like opening a chocolate box, not knowing what flavor the next one will be, and I just love the pleasant surprises he brings to my Flickr life almost everyday!
His passion towards the street photography and the vintage cameras is simply amazing and inspiring, to not just me, but anyone who share the same passion for either one of them. I am specially intrigued by his rather "traditional" street shots in which he compose everything so beautifully, and I am proud to say that I am one of the biggest fans of his works in that line.
Even though we have completely different styles of shooting, I look forward to seeing his new works everyday, knowing they will surely make me excited, smile a little, and even jealous once in a while."13th February, 2012

"Photography is a form of expression. Ying shows us the way that he sees this world, in an expressive manner and with distinctive style, we get a understanding of what it is that catches our eyes in our society and in our world. His work never seems to be obtrusive or ill mannered, yet it allows the viewer to have a strong bond and understanding of the piece. Ying's work is invaluable and I am so glad to have found his stream and the chance to admire his sensational and brilliant photos!"

momentspause says:
"Ying captures the movement of humanity in a way which is near-universal. Whether on the streets of HK or NYC, often using cameras of his own remarkable design and creativity, he captures the spaces between other people's recollections, sealing them into the passing glimpses we so often pay little attention to. His comments to other photographers are always worthwhile, and I learn from these as much as I do with his own work. A remarkable person."

""A careful look that manages to capture special moments with perfect timing. Look at his pictures means to try all the sensations that are felt on the street, surrounded by people. A great teacher of the kind of
photography I would love to learn, the street. Absolutely and spontaneously voted to the observation of the reality that surrounds him. It' s a real pleasure to be surprised by his photographic visions.""6th November, 2011

"YIng has a knack for spontaneous characters of varying chance and encounters cleverly fitted together, a brilliant observer of art movements from the past centuries, it isn't difficult to find a hint of that in his spectacular works, accomplished in a short period of time. Be sure to bookmark his stream, you will not be disappointed in the near future!"
