"From the very beginning of having been introduced to Paul's work, I found his style, character and manner in which he expressed himself through images to be an inspiration and delight. I make it a point to see what newest creation has come from his fine intellect and skill and it never fails to be a delight."

"Paul's photostream is one that I return to regularly for inspiration, motivation and pure enjoyment when I am in need...like visiting my favorite gallery. He has such a sophisticated style that is never over composed or cliche'. I try to limit my viewing to a few at a time to ensure that I am never without a new 'Paul Grand'! But it is a difficult thing to do.
His images of people have something special that I have yet to be able to define. I feel as though I am stealing a moment of their lives, standing right there with them but at the same time, not uninvited. Grace, beauty, true emotion and this undefined something are part of each of Paul's images...I am grateful that he is willing to share this gift that allows me to become inspired over and over again."22nd August, 2009

"Paul's work is artistic in every form. As much as the Painted Mona Lisa. I don't know Paul the man, but this testimonial is about his work, or, perhaps they are one in the same?
His texture use is very admirable.
His compositions make my eye go all over the image as to not miss anything.
His tones fit each image to keep them individual.
Yes, the man behind the camera has some rich talent I intend to follow."12th February, 2009

"I originally encountered Paul's work on Flickr looking for images for the covers of my four part novel 'Fruit', self published on Lulu (quick plug there). I asked him if I could use his picture Beached and, long story short, he's been nothing but generosity, encouragement and help ever since (plus being master of the haunting image.)
I wish him all the best and hope we stay friends even if he heads off to sunnier climes, as he's threatening to do.

"Paul, I don't even know where to start writing a testimonial for you and I am sure everyone else has said it better than me so this time at least I will keep it brief :-)
Paul is one of those lucky people who has been blessed with a great imagination and the ability to turn his ideas into flawless and wonderful artworks, each new photo in his stream whether it's a manipulation or straight photo is something to look forward to -full of wit and ingenuity.
I only really got to know Paul well when I started helping out with some of his many groups since that time he's become a wonderfully supportive friend and has helped me believe in myself and my ability.
Thanks Paul for being there and for being such an inspiration, please keep up the good work -it's an honour to be your friend.

"PaUL Paul your fantasy has no limits, makes the impossible possible, it is a cross between fairytale and reality, it is gentle, it is real, it is a dream, it is a photo, a composite, a perfect painting, a collage...it is mind blowing, it is inclusive and exclusive, with no rules but organised, detailed to the extreme but simple in the concept, it is attention seeker but private, but overall is a wonder and I can only assume that it is reflection of yourself. I feel the positive influence of your work. Thanks for being around and allow us a peek into your mind."

"Paul Grand is a wonder. Flawless manipulations one day, and incredible traditional photographs the next. Paul's images are honest and universal, and suffused with a healthy sense of humor. His photostream is a journey of discovery — an "in your face" declaration of his love for the medium.
Paul's always pushing the limits of his art and of himself — a drive which led him to start Man Ray (one of the best groups on Flickr) and a slew of others. He's unafraid to experiment with new techniques and then challenges the rest of us to do the same. (His enthusiasm really is quite catchy.) To me, Paul embodies the best of Flickr. He's open and generous, tremendously talented and daring. Best of all, he's my friend.
Go ahead, pick a page — any page — on his photostream. You won't be disappointed. Moreover, I bet you won't be able to stop at just that one! o_O"2nd October, 2007

"Paul might not think so, but he's brilliant. Really. All of us that have come to know him love his wit, his enthusiasm, his dedication to art. His images are surreal, quixotic...it's impossible to just look at one and move on. His manipulations must come from that "other" dimension he inhabits -- luckily, he shares his visions with us, giving us a guest-pass to this Twilight Zone he perpetuates.
There certainly is a story within each of his images...a story that, like a favorite book, is never quite tagged with "The End," but rather "The Beginning." Beyond all else, he always delights. Thank you, Paul, for being here -- and for sharing."25th September, 2007

"Paul is one of the coolest people I've met on flickr. So personable, so spirited, so supportive and so fun! He's been truly inspirational to me and also very motivational. I am so lucky to be able to call him friend. His help with the SVF gallery and Strange Vintage Fictions proper has been a godsend. He organizes shows, provides commentary, cleans up dirty glassware, uncorks bottle after bottle of Strange Vintage wine, and knows when the cheese is beyond pleasantly pungent. All that while running a bunch of groups of his own, the most amazing of which is, of course, ManRay!
Because of Paul’s limitless energy and enthusiasm, the groups he participates in, runs or helps administer are alive and fun and filled with new ideas. He keeps the discussion threads sparkling with life, and really knows how to get people to interact. He’s a person who brings out the best in everyone he touches (figuratively speaking! ;-)). His work is always fun, innovative and gorgeous. And when Paul has a belief about something important, look out! He’ll fight to the death to defend the things he holds dear. Thank you, Paul, for being a friend and for helping me so much with SVF and the gallery. I don’t know what I’d do without ya, m’dear! Now howza ‘bout a cappuccino?"11th December, 2006

"You have such an epic and sophisticated style. I find your work mysterious and tragic at times but it can be just as open and telling. Enigmatic and always enjoyable when you build your worlds and tell your tales."

"Paul's photostream is that of a true artist who has discovered a new medium and made it into something truly his own. He has a great collection of images, many of which feel like the work of long-forgotten masters of surreal photography and photomontage. I'm struck by the recurring motifs in his art. Mothman and his rabbit, Human dogs and canine dogs the size of mammoths, retro alpine skiing scenes with a difference, reworked or discarded scenes from the silent cinema,- unforgettable images with a 1920s parallel world feel to them. Just as the ancient Greeks, Lewis Carroll, or the 20th Century US Comic artists did, he is creating his own mythology here. As magical, disturbing and charming as all true mythologies. Great work!"

"im late to everything, this is nothing new!
but what a collection we have here!
the concept of him being a PS novice is unimaginable - but such humbleness only makes one more endearing, hehe.
i have also scratched my head wondering how the hell some of these images were made. but if he's anything like me, he'd know that experiemnt and play can bring the best rewards, and these images are the epitome of imaginations playground, a surreal yet somehow festive joy of life.
here's hoping there will always be more to come *_*

Misteriddles says:
"Grand Paul is without doubt one of my Flickr favorites. Most of all I adore the imaginative and surrealist sense of playful absurdity which abounds throughout his images and stories. Though he may describe himself as a PS novice, alleged 'technical limitations' never inhibit my enjoyment of his collages. On the contrary, I think too much PS slickness and seamless realism would lessen some of the fun in series such as Mothman and the dogpeople. Even so, in other pieces, such as 'There was no beating Martine' and in the shell series, he shows he is capable of marrying a more subtle surrealism to strikingly beautiful aesthetics. I should mention that I also love pieces such as 'Henkle's New Clock' and 'Time's Tears', both of which masterfully recall the early modernist styles of collage favored by various dadaist and futurist artists."

dollseye says:
"Watching the slideshow was quite an emotional roller coaster, sometimes funny, sometimes happy and often a wonderfully told combination of both. I really like the way you experiment with scale and perspective, it's like a visual wake up call. The world simply doesn't look the same after a visit to your gallery. I think my favourite things are when you make one of the elements disproportionally large and then everything else in the frame just has to deal with it, sometimes by moving out of the way and sometimes just by accommodating the large thing. It's like a kind of backwards evolution and I think these works can help to question the very concept of evolution. Maybe things are never quite that neat after all. And yet at the same time, they are :)) In other words, it reinforces my most comfortable feeling that anything can happen, apples the size of rooms and shells the size of beaches and everything else in the world simply adjusts to it! I'm glad to know you, I enjoy your work a lot."

"Even though he thought I was a male, he was still kind to me (haha).
Even though he is an ex-pat, living in France, he really lives largely (that's the Grand bit, I'd say) in his healthy imagination. Even though his icon looks like a nice man with longish hair, when I think of Paul, in my mind's eye I see a dapper Moth Man with a handsome (Bunny Boy) rabbit & the pair are often off on adventures of the most curious kind. Even though he sometimes seems to fly off the hook easily, I know that it's because Paul has deepfelt values, and an artistic temperment to boot which fits well for an artiste, wouldn't you say?!
Even though Paul has started a few different groups and is often spearheading varied ideas to make this flickr-sharing community more fun, I can remember when he'd started the Man Ray group, his first & I think perhaps his best contribution to this site thus far (but things might have changed again, by the time you read this -- he's a very creative & active guy)!
Even though this is a testimonial, I really hope it's just my little teaser introduction & you'll discover Paul & his marvelous world for yourself. Then, you can add your words of admiration here too."9th October, 2006

redtieguy says:
"What I admire most about Grand Paul is his concern with the authentic. We cannot build for the future, we cannot express truth and selfhood, unless we incorporate the past. This is what I see in his pictorial work. I admire his gaze, which is universal, inclusive, far-reaching. The past is brought to fruition and renewed in Paul's photography, and his unwavering commitment to beauty, inner and outer, is what makes his work enjoyable and valid. In a nutshell, Paul uses technology to express his humanity. He controls the machine. The machine does not control him. This is what the future should be about."

"Once upon a time there was big bear, in a tree, on the hill above the opidum.
He took photographs for his Man Ray group in Flickr.
This is Paul.
This big bear is an artist, a real one! He's able to renovate his huge den, able to paint a big canvas with fury fingers, able to cook a delicious meal... He likes life in his scale -- huge!
A big sensitive bear, a gourmet who loves nature, animals, red wine and ... honey!
Of course Paul is so much more than this but... it's really too difficult to write more about the man I love ;-)"28th July, 2006
