As of September, 2008, I am a retired airline pilot . I am also retired from the US Army; (7 years active duty, and 21 years Oregon Army National Guard). I served two tours of duty in Vietnam.
I became interested in photography when I flew reconnaissance in the Army, (1968-1996).
I am about 95% digital now, (D200, Sony P150), but still use film on occasion, and scan same with a Minolta Scan Dual IV.

Full Metal Photographer says:
"Though he posts them few and far between (as far as Flickrites go, anyway) it's always worth the wait to see the latest black and white landscape shot from George Burns. He either has a very light trigger finger or is a very judicious editor of his work.
These landscapes always have a wonderful range of tones, and all in all are perfect in a technical sense. But beside that, they are thoughtfully composed and have a sense of peaceful grandeur, so that his work has a consistent, compelling style, and one to which anyone can relate. It may sound cliché to compare someone to Ansel Adams, but his work really does resemble that of a beach-bound (rather than mountain-bound) Ansel Adams."22nd September, 2007

"I first saw grburns09's photos through the challengeweek group. I was always amazed by the depth of emotion he was able to incorporate into his photos. His black and white images are stunning the detail and contrast tend to make me return to them repeatedly to make sure I haven't missed some detail.
He has an incredible talent and I hope to enjoy viewing his pictures for a very long time to come."23rd July, 2007

Bea Jay says:
"Each of his pictures is a well studied piece of art: the balances of the elements are perfect. Especially in the b&w pictures, the perfect composition is remarkable! Either the rigid symmetry of buildings against a living sky, or the sinuosities and reflections of beach-scapes which combine the moving water and the solid rocks or lost logs. Sometimes it takes a while until the next picture is "born", but waiting for it is really worthwhile!"
