My name is POLINA .( d.o.b. 20 april 1983). I was born in Crimea, citizen of Ukraine. My native languages are Russian and Ukrainian. u can call me 38050 812 25 82.

I want to give u some info about Crimea.

Coming to Crimea to learn Russian is reasonable, as it is cheaper than in mainland Ukraine and Russia. It is an interesting, culturally and politically complex place. ( just as anywhere else i think). If you speak German, read this. It is a summer Russian language school at the shore of the Black sea. www.muschinskaya.de
The site is in German as the school clients are mostly people from German speaking countries. Via this site you can get yourself a teacher any time of the year.

One should not rely only on american travel guides such as Lonely Planet, the Bradt or Western media in general to get info about any country. The best way to know local culture, local political situation and seeing the most interesting places is to find people that will guide you there.

Learning the language of the country and reading in that language will let u understand the local point of view, not the American( or Western one), which, as a rule, is onesided.

ABOUT CRIMEAN WAR.

The Tunisian Army in the Crimean War: A Military Mystery
by Dr. Andrew McGregor

Surprising and well worth a read.

BATTLEFIELDS OF THE CRIMEAN CAMPAIGN 1854-1855
Photos by Colonel V.Klembovsky, 1904

A full set of Crimean War images from Colonel V. N. Klembovsky's 1904 photo album (very rare) - with image titles.

Vladislav Napoleonovitch KLEMBOVSKY (28.6.1860 - 19.7.1921) had a most distinguished military career. He was on the General Staff of the Tsar's Army during WWI, transferred to the Red Army in 1918 and was eventually arrested and died in prison, allegedly after a 14-day hunger strike.

His other books were:-

"Military espionage in peace and war" [by KLEMBOWSKY, W.] [Russian, French and German editions], 1894.

"The period from October 1915 to September 1916 Trench warfare and breakthrough Austrians south-western front" [by KLEMBOVSKY, V. N]. Moscow, 1920. [Russian].

He had a brother called Arthur Oscar Napoleonovich KLEMBOVSKY (03/02/1862 -?), Major General (10/05/1914).

BALACLAVA AND THE SEVASTOPOL INQUIRY
BY COMMANDER W. GORDON, R.N. (H.M.S SANSAPAREIL)

Excellent - with a very useful detailed map - and a good deal to say about the November 14th, 1854 hurricane. Illustrates the docking problems in that narrow, short and dog-legged inlet.

CRIMEAN WAR PHOTOGRAPHS by ROGER FENTON, MARCH-JUNE 1855

Useful, but probably better found in the US Library of Congress collection, if you don't mind lengthy downloads for highest resolution images.

RUSSIAN HORSE GUARDS COMMEMORATIVE MANUAL
1706-1931
Preface and Illustrations

Not much (if anything on the Crimea) but a remarkable collection of images - often of very high officers murdered in 1917-18...

The Army Service of Hastings McAllister, b. 1827, d. 1894

Small-scale, but worthwhile, if you go through the Crimea bits. Letter images + text.
