I have been interested in photography ever since college where I majored in architecture. It became apparent early on that a basic background in photography would be critical to my appreciation of the buildings and structures around me. The camera would help me keep a record of the projects I worked on, especially by preserving the fragile balsa wood models I painstakingly constructed in design class.
In time, my appreciation for photography began to develop into a love, then a passion. At one point, I thought about combining my two passions and become an architectural photographer. That didn't quite work out, but I eventually did give up my T-square and slide rule (I'm dating myself) and find a way of making a living taking pictures. Opportunities were rather slim in my community but finally I did land a job with the local newspaper as staff photographer (hence the newsman05). That position grew into chief photographer and then to photo editor. Working as a photojournalist taught me how to react quickly, think on my feet, and develop a style that relied heavily on representing simple graphic forms and shapes, which transferred more easily onto the inherently poor quality of newsprint.
Throughout the years, I have had the good fortune of being able to travel extensively throughout the world. I tend to seek out subjects that have good form and color content. I still try to keep things simple and I'm not too much into image manipulation, although I admire those who do it well. I'm a huge fan of black and white photography, but I tend to shoot mostly color these days. I have not yet gotten into HDR, but I hope to very soon. I think there is so much potential in the technique especially with regard to architectural interiors. I have worked in just about every format, and while I love my Leica cameras, I tend to pick up a Canon DSLR more often these days.
After several years managing the photographic documentations teams at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, I am now back doing what I love to do. I'm currently doing commercial photography, including advertising, editorial and architectural assignments.

caokiecoby says:
"Newsman05 is the most remarkable photographer I've ever met. His work is the best I've ever seen. His dedication to his art is so inspiring and also encouraging. He has so much patience when it comes to taking the perfect photo. He has the most amazing eye and can spot a potentially incredible photograph in any environment he is in.
My favorite photos are his landscape pictures, but he is also an amazing portrait photographer as well. I have been the subject of many of his pictures.
This amazing photographer is my father. He's not only the best photographer I know, but he's also the greatest man I know."28th April, 2007
