"The photo that attracted me to Susanna's work, was a photo of a lonely bicycle at a waterway called "Back lane bike" which reminded me a lot of my native Holland.
A lot of time has passed since that first comment I left her and I have seen her grow from a young woman with a love for photography to a (semi) professional photographer that shows her passion through her work.
Although a lot of her shots are unique in their own right and often downright amazing, Susanna will always remain very humble and maybe even a bit insecure at times about her achievements.
Going through her stream you will find diversity, creativity and a lot of simply fantastic photos. "My first encounter with Susanna's photos was her image of South Mill Pond. It was beautiful in the sunrise, and I could tell it was a place she enjoyed and maybe even photograhed before. Then I saw her photo of a bike leaning against a fence, and what caught my eye was that, there beyond the fence, was her South Mill Pond.
That told me all that I needed to know about Susanna at that moment and why I would love returning to her photos and getting to know her.
Susanna is a seeker; an explorer whose camera is an extension of her eyes and her heart. It wasn't enough for her to capture the lovely sunrise over the pond. She had to return. She had to walk around, encirle the place and search out it's wonders. Like Thoreau, who said that he wanted to drive life into a corner and make it give up its secrets, she uses her camera to make the world around her reveal its truth and beauty, whether it be a leaf caught in a stream, a child's smile or her own warm gaze.
I love her wonderful inquisitiveness and the way she expresses it in her images and how they inspire me to return again to places to see what I've missed. I love that she's always trying to learn, to improve. She always seems to be trying to allow her technical knowledge grow at the same pace as her developing gifts as an artist. And her unblinking record of her life and the world around her is both an expression of her love for life and her way of showing love.
