Postcard from Kashmir

Kashmir shrinks into my mailbox,
my home a neat four by six inches.

I always loved neatness. Now I hold
the half-inch Himalayas in my hand.

This is home. And this the closest
I'll ever be to home. When I return,
the colors won't be so brilliant,
the Jhelum's waters so clean,
so ultramarine. My love
so overexposed.

And my memory will be a little
out of focus, in it
a giant negative, black
and white, still undeveloped.

    H@shim A ™ says:

    "i can't believe i hadn't done this long ago...

first of all - the beta/beti thing is what had me hooked to the manna from the heavens.

some of the funniest moments i've had on flickr have been as a direct result of the chance meeting - which originally took place in a bazaar in Buenos Aires around 1998. i had gotten into an argument with a shopkeeper about this llama he sold me that was defective. it barked instead of moo'd (or whatever sound llamas make). i suspected he actually sold me a funny looking dog.

while i was arguing, a young lady came up to both of us. she saw that i was frustrated and not getting anywhere. she offered some assistance and ended up convincing the guy to make what was wrong right.

i got a pet monkey out of the situation. not only a pet monkey - a very good chai making pet monkey.

he stuck around for about 2 days but ended up leaving for a job offer with microsoft in china running the legal affairs department.

i don't hold anyone responsible for the tragedy.

i just remember the very kind gesture from manna from the heavens.

thank you for reading this testimonial that i was not paid to write but did for free - since i'm a very nice guy living in a large cardboard box (with wifi) in zanzibar."
