  "I have been looking at Lorena's photos for a while, I'm not sure how long, but possibly several years. Lorena has a great eye, but she also has something else and that really comes through in her portraits. Her portraits of her students really stop me. What comes through for me is a real warm relationship with her subjects. I live in Mexico and I know the basic decency and warmth of these people. Lorena really brings this out but I am convinced it is because she is not just a photographer documenting her subjects, she loves these people and they really return it her photographs."

  In the world today we often have images screaming for our attention. it is the whispered word however that commands attention and this is just what her images are. Works that in their simplicity, allow us to see more than we normally would.
  
  In particular her "Moss Landing" and "Chiapas" series are extremely wonderful as these images show the often overlooked and stay far away from the cliche most photographers would use.

  "Yaxchibonam has an amazing variety of photographs, that cover many areas, landscapes and themes.
  Her set on Salinas, particulary touched me. She has a strong sense of social consiousness and in this set we are carried into the daily lives of the migrant fieldworkers. Yaxchibonam takes me on a journey - from the stark open fields to the close-up detail of the fruits of the workers labours. She warns us of the dangers of pesticides and the multitude of health problems caused by exposure to chlorine. So important to raise public awareness, and she has done so in a most artistic way.
  Her love of nature comes alive in beautiful images of flowers and landscapes. Mexico comes alive with its busyness, the contrasts of old and modern architecture and advertisements.
  The colours of Mexico and the buildings and people are rich and vibrant.
  And, as I am such a lover of Frida Kahlo and her paintings, I adore the set of Frida and Diego.
  Yaxchibonams' portraits of family and people are wonderful -
  The photostream has everything - social documentary, landscapes, people.....and all done with a keen eye and compassion and artistic creativity."
