"Sure, Gene's probably got enough of these things; but he's been there to answer my questions, to give advice and lend counsel about my acquisitions of gear. He's shown me, though his eyes, what can be photographed and made interesting. If in any sense I try to emulate another photographer, Gene is near the top of that small list of people worth using as a measure. I've bought cameras like his, used moleskines as he, and tried to follow his example of photographing nearly every day. Trouble is, he drinks WAY too much coffee, and now, so do I."

"I met Gene on another forum, and it's hard to believe it is but a few months ago. Gene is a dedicated and committed photographer, who does superb work. Whether the tool at hand is SLR, rangefinder or digital, Gene's commitment to the craft is first class.
While continuing to shoot a good deal of film, Gene and his wife Marion, have developed an efficient, sensible file management system, and are willing to share it.
Gene's vision, expressed in his fine photography is not to be missed.
Sincerely,
mikeg"12th December, 2006

"Gene and I have been neighbours and buddies for almost thirty years, and I value his friendship greatly. He is one highly knowledgeable fellow, a pioneer in many disciplines.
He has been my mentor in the world of computing, and all things digital. He is a very accomplished photographer, and his images of Port Credit are without parallel. A visit to his photostream is always rewarding!"30th November, 2006

"From just someone at the other end of the internet to a friend in real life and then my mentor in photography, this is how I know about Gene (aka HarbourLight).
His nightmare to get bugged by a newbie began in 2003 when I was looking to upgrade to the Canon 300D. By chance I run into Gene’s Pbase website and I said “wow, if I bought this camera, I should be able to take wonderful photo as this guy”. Oh well, if someone is naïve enough to think that way, you can figure my photography knowledge is really really limited. The premature upgrade was steep and frustrating. As a desperate move, I was thick skin enough to send unsolicited emails (^^) to Gene to seek HELP. Even though I was a total stranger, Gene was helpful to my silly questions and pointed me direction to some really helpful photography material. On his advice, I also joined a photographer’s forum that he frequents to learn from many other photographers.
Since 2004, we started to have a Starbucks twice a year. He was most helpful in sharing his knowledge every time we met. More importantly, I have to tell you his passion for photography really impresses me. At the same time, we will also take the opportunity to have a photoshoot in the Port Credit area that is so beautifully captured under his eye. In fact, I highly recommend you to dig deep into his photostream as I am sure you will find it both rewarding and an enjoyable experience like I do. (But please DON’T flood his email like I did or I need to stay away from Port Credit for a prolonged period of time!!)
Gene, thanks so much for being a friend and a mentor even though you are always too humble to admit you have been an inspiration in my quest to become a better photographer!"18th October, 2006

"I just wanted to write and share my thanks to Gene for being a great Flickr member and a personal friend!
Gene is a well versed and creative photographer, and he is always willing to give a nice comment and a supportive word, tip or general advice to others ;-) Gene helps others like myself to succeed in their picture taking.
I have had the chance to meet with Gene, and I can tell you that his mind really is a wealth of photographic information and friendly humour.
I hope you will take the due time to view his photo stream and share in a world of ideas and creativity as only Gene could offer!
I'm positive you will find it a joy, and of interest to view his pictures that stem from a a wide collection of his cameras, and his knowledge of getting "that" shot."4th October, 2006

"I have never had the privelige of meeting Gene, but none the less count him amongst my friends. We have followed each others photography through four forums and have swapped traded and sold several cameras. He is truly a scholar and gentleman and one of a kind. Cheers my friend"
