I've been around a while :-{ ) (male modesty) and taking snaps for years with an old KM pentax - it has served me well but is a bit too slow and long in the tooth.

Serendipitously, I found myself with a new Nikon D50 and other bits (70-300 VR). I have since replaced it with a D90 and added several other lenses including a Sigma 150 - 500 and 105 macro. The old D50 is now my wife's which she uses to take lovely macros of flowers.

I had been watching birds (aves) for 35 years and restoring an old car (1927 Chevrolet) so I found an outlet for my often frustrated desires to do something OK.

I live on the Gold Coast. Wonderful place, full of beautiful scenery( mountains, rain forests and beaches) , birds, motorcycles and old cars. What more could I ask for?

As far as being taken - I am given - 36 years worth and still managing strong :-{ )

If you're interested in Australian birds, I get all my naming data from a wonderful little site called Birds in My Back yard at birdsinbackyards.net/ It gives one page fact sheets that are interesting and helpful.

All animal, bird or insect photos are of wild creatures - no zoos or aviaries - I will tell you if they are.

"One of my first Flickr friends, Dave has been a joy to know. Full of good advise that you have to ask for to get. Very smart guy that is a pleasure to exchange email with. Very good nature photographer, his bird pictures are excellent and have always made me jealous. If you looking at his photos you're in a good place. I feel he 's turned in to a good friend who's polite enough to not tell me I'm taking too many bug pictures lol.
He knows, I know, I am.
