I have uploaded some images I created here. But the main thing that brings me to flickr is looking for images of educational value that it would be useful to upload to the wikimediia commons.

I only upload images where the original flick uploader released the image under a "creative commons" liscense. Specifically, I only upload images released under a "CC-by" or "CC-by-SA" liscense. When properly uploaded to the wikimedia commons the original flickr uploader is always credited, as the liscense requires. And their original liscense is duplicated, so that the views of the image at the wikimedia commons will know the requirements the owner of the intellectual property rights requires, in order for them to re-use the image.

Once uploaded to the commons the images can be re-used, on the wikipedia, to illustrate articles about the subject of the image.

In November I started trying to leave a note on each image I uploaded. I do this because I really am grateful. And the note helps prevent wikimedia contributors from trying to upload twice an image I already uploaded before.

Some flick uploaders tell me they appreciate being told their images were being re-used. Others ask me why I didn't ask for their explicit permission prior to the upload.

I hate trying to explain to those who are unhappy to learn their images were uploaded somewhere else that the the variation of the creative commons liscense they applied to the image was the the prior permission. A couple of flickr uploaders subsequently asked me to delete their image -- something it is not within my power to do. But, if I uploaded an image you released under a creative commons liscense, and you want that image to be deleted, I will help guide you through the steps of initiating a request for deletion on the wikimedia commons.
