My gear:
I have a Canon 40D body, which I love. One day I'll get a FF, so my lens choices keep this in mind.
[UPDATE] Ahhhh, the day has arrived, got a 5DII.
I've got 3 zoom lenses that cover a huge range, all very good:
The ultra wide angle "Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM"
Glowing review
The superb quality is inside, within the optics. It is a very fine lens. Obviously you will find distortion: it is a super wide angle zoom! But aberrations are pretty well controlled and corners softness is quite acceptable for such a wide-wide lens. You can always use DXO to improve your photos. The results are not average at all, nor merely good, but VERY good.
The walk around mid range lense, Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM
Glowing review Your results won't be good, nor very good, not even extremely good, they will be excellent which means: almost impossible to obtain a better outcome.
The BIG ONE, Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
review
The 100-400/4.5-5.6L is a good lens and if you only want to carry one lens to cover this range there is no better choice. On an APS-C DSLR the field-of-view resembles a whopping 160-640mm lens on classic (full-frame) SLRs. With a price tag around 1400EUR/US$ it isn´t exactly cheap but still within the reach of many serious amateurs.
These are all fairly slow, so I have a couple of specialist primes
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
Review
The Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II is the very cheapest lens in the Canon line-up. Cheap really refers to the price tag only because for a price below 100 EUR you get a light-weight, high performing lens.
And of course, everyone needs a good macro:
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM
Review:
The EF 100mm is the most popular macro lens in the Canon line, although it is not the cheapest macro lens, at $435 it is affordable and the optical quality is really good.
I'd like to get some of the legendary primes like 35L, 135L, maybe 50L, one day...
[UPDATE] Got the Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L USM
'The' lens for taking photos of people.
Looking at the Samyang 14mm to replace the 10-22mm EFS.
I lug it all around in a Tamrac Adventure 9 bag,(I need another smaller bag for just any 2 lenses). [Update] Just got a smaller bag Lowepro Inverse 100 AW.
I've got an old Velbon tripod, with a Manfrotto 486RC2 ball head. I'd like a light carbon fiber such as a Feisol 3342. I'm thinking of a monopod for the 100-400 lens.
I use Photoshop CS4, and ony shoot in RAW.
I've got a Canon S80 point & shoot, which is very good as well.
