I was born in Brooklyn, New York and raised in Astoria, Queens. I've traveled and lived all over the United States - but except for a few visits to Canada - I've never been out of the states. I first came to Montana in 1980 and knew that it was home. I moved here for good in 1993.

I started taking 35mm photos in 1976. At that time I developed and printed my own b&w. My first camera was a little Ricoh rangefinder. My second was an OM-1 - which suited me fine. My third was a Nikon - but it was all automatic and it frustrated me, so I gave it away. In NY I enjoyed taking photos of bridges, architecture, and "only in NY" type shots. I had a camera with me a good deal of the time, so I took a lot of photographs. I wasn't concentrating on art, I preferred taking snapshots that sometimes perfectly captured moments. I was always drawn to the water, being surrounded by it. My wildlife consisted of birds, squirrels, dogs and the occasional cat. But I did manage to take some nature photos - in NYC and in my wanderings.

In 1995 I married a third generation Montana farmer/rancher. My photo subjects shifted again. Cattle, tractors, farm equipment, horses, landscapes, cemeteries, gravestones, old buildings and the family pets. We're about 60 miles from Billings, the largest city in the state. There was never any instant gratification with film developing and printing.

I started blogging in August 2004. I have been scanning and working with my 35mm photos - but I knew nothing about digital cameras. My husband purchased a Nikon digital camera for me in the spring of 2005. When I went online to get a memory card for it - I found that we had paid too much for the camera. I went into this in detail on my blog.

Digital Dilemma

I'm happy with the little Optio WP that I chose. It couldn't get any more convenient. If I decide to pursue more serious photography - I will look into a digital SLR. But for now, my emphasis is on having fun with my photos. Flickr has helped with that. The groups are great - and I've met some wonderful people.

I wish that I had the time to devote to flickr and my contacts. Unfortunately my spare time is usually stolen time, and I don't have enough time at the computer. I am a chronic upload & runner. Please don't add those animated gifs, the multiple awards and group invitations to the comments. I just can't keep up with it.
