Fall 2010

I am interested in exploring the energy we perceive in images. Sometimes it can be obvious such as a wave crashing onto a rock. Other times it is more subtle, perhaps just one or two lines guiding our perceptions.

In 2008 I began photographing simple forms – things with only a few lines or curves – because complex images were too busy for me to understand. I found a great deal of pleasure in following the subtle energy (I don't know what else to call the feeling) that flows along the edges of minimalist elements in an image.

In 2010 I started to explore how to pass energy from a moving camera to the image. A detailed explanation of the technique is in the Transferring motion set. Things in the original scene were perfectly still when the photograph was taken. All the movement you see in this series comes from moving the camera in a number of ways all at the same time.

Most of the subjects for these images have been found, usually in public places. Exposure, colour and orientation are often changed. I like to think of the world as the artist and myself as a fortunate editor with almost unlimited freedom.

If you mark me as a contact and I do not mark you too it is only because I can't keep up with the contacts I have already. I will try to visit your site as often as possible. I wish I had more time for flickr.
