I take photographs, not to capture a moment, but to reveal something which could not otherwise be shown, familiar scenes out of context, scenes which we see every day, but generally do not even register.

My work falls into two major categories; the investigation of beauty in everyday scenes and portraits of workers in the public eye. For myself I see a macro of a drain cover or a telephoto shot of a gasometer as being essentially the same as an image of a window dresser or policeman. I am taking something which is there for everyone to see and trying to shout 'look at this!'. The reason I categorise them is that generally my urban landscapes can be reproduced and physically exist, whereas my portraits generally capture a moment between facial expressions which would pass unnoticed and cannot be reproduced.

I want to share these moments and, in the words of Lewis Hine, "If I could say it in words, I wouldn't need to photograph". I need to take photographs.
