Deadman's Island is located in Gulf Breeze, Florida
It is a historic landmark ansd rare coastal ecosystem within a bay ecosystem (Pensacola Bay).
Historically is was used by the Spanish abd the British as a careening area and later a US Quarantine station for Yellow Fever epidemics. Hurricane ennis exposed six coffins and these events prompted the restoration project using natural and vertical oyster reef breakwaters and shoreline vegetation to stabalize and restore the wetlands which once protected the pristine marsh and marine oak hammock. This restoration project provides additional marine habitat and protection for juvenile fish and invertebrates.
