We are Alex and Yarek mostly known as “THE UKRAiNiANZZz”. Our story begins with a huge desire to create art of different kinds but in Ukraine (that’s where we are from) it’s almost impossible for young people like us, because all our nation lives in poverty, our politicians are well known criminals and basically life seems to be a scary dream. So once we decided to change our lives forever and runaway from this neverending nightmare. And so May 10 of 2006 we arrived to California as work and travel students to work all summer long in Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. And it was hard work almost for nothing. We used to earn money only to survive and sometimes we didn't have food at all. So after 3 months we realised that it's not completely what we dreamed about, we quit this job and went on our amazing trip over California.
Since then our lives are never gonna be the same again. Our view on the world and our values changed a lot. So many crazy things happened that you couldn’t even imagine. We can probably make an adventure blockbuster movie or write a hilarious book… Like on our second day in US we accidentally spent a night on the streets of Compton. Just think about it, we lived for 2 months in a family of religious fanatics, we have learned how to live without money how to eat from trashcans, we worked in newspaper, on construction, services, computer maintenance. We have seen probably every rock show all over California and helping tacking care of old people in nursing house. We have made lots of friends from bums to rock-stars and preachers. Learned a lot about LIFE of American people. We had lots of fun. And one thing we know for sure - even it was tough time for us, still it is the craziest adventure we ever had in our lives!!!
Right now we are living in Santa Cruz where people from our local church (http://vintagefaith.com) helping us a lot. We are staying with one lovely grandma from this church, in her house for free. We applied for a new visa and our paperwork is still in process so we cannot get any job till we get our visas. That is the reason we made our web-site (http://theukrainianzzz.com) This site is our diary. Our daily adventures. It's our one and only possible way to survive right now! To tell people our story so they can help us. Make our story known.
Our life will never be the same again… We don’t have any money, place to stay even parents but we have such a big desire to live our on a full speed.
