Pier 7 Blue Scene

Many thanks to THE LAB in Santa Rosa, CA. for their great film developing! You can mail in your film and know it is being processed right. They have many other services, too.

First of all, or is that second? Let me say that I thank you for visiting this photostream. I really thank you if you found it by using the search engine! I would also like to thank everyone that has let me know how much they enjoyed an image, in whatever way, be it comments and favorites, being added to a gallery, or with flicker mail. I do not ignore the messages that say "so and so liked your image" or whatever. If you want to show me something you photographed, just add me as a contact and I will do the same. Uh, until I can't keep up anymore, that is! Haha.

Do not use my images without asking me first. I reserve all rights to every one! That being said:

I have been asked several times if I sell prints of a particular image. The answer is yes, but they are made from very high resolution drum scans at a pro lab and do not show the defects, casts, and film edge, like all the images here, which are made from a simple flatbed scanner scanned at a very low resolution with subsequent small file size. The Tiff files I use for enlargements (up to 30x40inch) are usually between 40 and 200 Megabytes. Thank you for viewing!

Hi, I started photographing as a child with 110 and 126 format film and stepped up to 135 and Super 8 in junior high/high school (class of 90). Then, in 98, I started photographing in medium (6x7cm ) and large formats (4x5) and have stayed with it after never finding a better method or medium. I also use other miniature-format cameras, such as 35mm SLR models when not shooting planned landscape shoots. Still, I mainly use an RZ67 Pro 2 that renders a 6x7cm "ideal format" frame that can be enlarged, scanned, projected, or just viewed on the light table.
My favorite films are Fuji Velvia 100, 50, T-64 (tungsten-balanced), and the Kodak "E100" line. The T-64 is my favorite night photography emulsion and has excellent exposure latitude. Tri-X Pan and Neopan are the B&W films I prefer.
I went though an art program in college, but would end up majoring in humanities (Foreign Language, go figure) and now work with plants--haha. Prior to flickr, I had sold individual images to a handful of persons that contacted me after seeing my work in rather humble exhibitions. While making money is nice, I honestly do it for that wonderful feeling of honoring a brief glimpse of the space-time continuum (you knew the corny stuff was coming).
I am fairly inept at this whole flickr concept, but give me time.
I enjoy seeing everyone's work, which can be amazing and am always willing to help, talk shop, or "philosophize." What's so great about photography-sharing websites is that people with like photographic tastes can feel validated after years of family members calling them weird. Haha.
Also, feel free to ask questions, comment, critique, or complain. If it is thoughtful, it can only help.

I added this flag counter to see from what countries people are viewing from. I wish I had thought of that earlier. Haha.

"Let me first start out by saying that Ian is one talented photographer! Well, you already know if you have gone through his photostream. Over the past year Ian and I have become very good friends and shooting partners. Aside from being a generous, trustworthy and humble friend, Ian has also been an excellent teacher. He has taught me a variety of great techniques that I use today in my own photography, and has also inspired me to learn and shoot medium format film. I must say that this has been a great addition to my photography goals. Ian has shown me quite a variety of shooting locations where some of my best work has been created. The sky is the limit when Ian and I get together for a shoot. I feel fortunate to have had the chance to meet and become friends with Ian and I know he will continue to inspire myself and others. Thanks RZ68 for being such an awesome friend and mentor."
