Hi, and welcome to my place on flickr. Here you will find a bit of a mix of photos from me...some are serious shots that I have taken, as I do photography on a freelance basis. The other shots that you will see are a bit of things from here and a bit of things from there. Some are taken with a simple point and shoot (a few with a cell phone), while some are taken with a large format film camera, and some are taken with cameras somewhere in the middle.

In case you can't tell by viewing my images, the main focus of my professional career is as a helicopter pilot. I've been an airplane pilot since the age of seventeen and added helicopters to my resume some eight years later. I retired from the military after spending a total of twenty-three years in uniform with eighteen years in the Air National Guard, and the last five with the Air Force Reserves. I had a bit of a varied career and spent the first five years enlisted working on the F-106 Delta Dart. After receiving my commission, I attended Undergraduate Navigator Training and was a Weapons System Officer on the F-4 Phantom. From there I went to Undergraduate Pilot Training-Helicopter and initially flew the HH-3E Jolly Green Giant, and followed that up with the HH-60G PaveHawk.

After retiring from the Reserves in 2002, I owned a helicopter business for a period of time. I then spent time flying for two companies in the Gulf of Mexico in support of the oil and natural gas industry. From there, I went on to what I love doing and that is flying medivac helicopters.

Currently I am taking a break from aviation after the helicopter I was flying had a catastrophic engine failure while on a night flight with a patient onboard. I got the bird on the ground without putting a scratch on it. In fact, it was back in the air within a week after receiving a new engine. I however, was left with the need for a bit of a break from flying. I am NOT enjoying the break and am looking forward to getting back in the air!

Besides my love of flying, I have been involved with photography for most of my life and use a variety of equipment. While I am a diehard Canonite and have been for the past 25 years, I have a fondness for Mamiya medium format equipment as well as Toyo large format cameras. Below is a list of my current equipment:

I also have studio lighting and a couple of Speedlites along with various modifiers for both, including softboxes, umbrellas, snoots, grids, etc. I use both radio triggers and a Canon ST-E2 to fire them. For film scanning, I have an Epson V750-M Pro. For post production, I use a variety of software that includes Photoshop CS4 and Portrait Professional Studio 9.

I have a Canon A570 IS that I absolutely love. It usually sits in the cockpit with me and you'll find that the majority of my EMS photographs were taken with this camera.

Enjoy my photos and please feel free to comment. The only thing that I ask is no large, flashy graphics in the comments.

Thanks...Doug
