For starters, I'm waaaaay over 18.

MY NUDIST PHILOSOPHY IN A NUTSHELL: To be human is to have a human body, and to be ashamed of one's body is to be ashamed of being human.

A clothing-optional society, in which individuals are free to be as dressed or undressed as they wish, would be my ideal. I put my good points and my flaws on display with the attitude of, "For better or for worse, here I am. This is me."

In the spirit of "Be the Change", I seize or create opportunities to be clothes-free regardless of what the expected "norm" might be. Few of my friends and neighbors are nudists, but I try not to let that cramp my style. They're used to me and accept me for who I am.

I used to belong to a nudist club, but soon realized that I was spending time in artificial situations among people with whom I didn't have much in common, all just for a chance to be socially naked.

My preference now is to hang out with people I really enjoy, doing the things I really want to do. I would nearly always rather be naked, so when those around me are okay with it, I give myself permission to go for it. Because I think it SHOULD be okay, I might tend to push the envelope.

As for my public nudity, about 95% of it takes place where nudity is neither illegal nor unheard of.... but, yes, there's some envelope-pushing going on there, too.

My modeling for art classes has an exhibitionist component that I won't deny; it is liberating to stand nude on a platform, under a spotlight, for the sole purpose of being scrutinized. It's a performance. It also helps me come to terms with my physical imperfections, including those that come with aging, an average-sized dick (and I often experience shrinkage when nude in public) etc. Here's the weird part: while naked in the center of a classroom for 20 minutes at a stretch, I am perceived as a Nude Model. Then the timer rings and I step off the platform for a 5-minute break; as my foot touches the floor I am instantly transformed into a Naked Man. Same viewers, same body, but convention demands that I immediately don a robe to hide what they've just been studying. Nakedness is no longer required, hence it is wrong. This blows my mind.

Whether at home among friends or in a crowd of strangers, I feel that being non-sexually nude among clothed folk has the potential to ease them toward an understanding that it's no big deal. I flatter myself that I'm somewhat of an activist for the twin causes of Body Freedom and Body Acceptance.

Many onlookers, in person and on Flickr, seem to respond to nudity with strictly sexual interest or as if it were a freak show... and I can't control that. I hope that eventually, through osmosis, SOME of them may come to think that a human body is a perfectly natural thing which doesn't ALWAYS mean sex, and which shouldn't need to be hidden from view.
