Hi, I’m 41 yrs old and have been into photography for over 20yrs now! on and off, but only 2yrs with digital.
I haven’t had any specific photography training, however, much of my knowledge and techniques are down to reading monthly photographic magazines and taking tips and inspiration from them. Flickr is another great way to find inspiration and to challenge yourself artistically.
Since photography has been in my blood, I tend to look at the world in more detail, for instance, I look up and behind me more often which may look to a stranger as if I were being a little paranoid ! I try to take my camera with me wherever I go.
I especially like the changes in the seasons because they all have amazing things to offer us photographers.
I don’t really have a preference for landscape, black and white, portrait etc… I just photograph everything! I do admit to having a soft spot for long exposures though as I love its effect on water and moving clouds.

I process all RAW files on my Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop using Photoshop Elements 8 (PSE) and Nik Silver Efex Pro for black & white processing, Redfield Fractalius for effects. .
I use a Nikon D300s With just four lenses; all fitted with B+W UV Filters.

In terms of post production in PSE:
I have no real skill at manipulating my pictures; most knowledge is taken from free cd’s taped to photographic mags... + trial and error.
I make sure the white balance, exposure and sharpness are correct on the RAW file then transfer to PSE where I will tweak and straighten the horizon if needed. I then either transfer to Nik software Silver Efex Pro to view in B+W or exit the plug in and sharpen the image in colour before saving. That’s pretty much it really! I don't know about layers etc??

I have a variety of Cokin Grads and Polariser filter as well as the B+W ND110 -10 Stop Filter for long exposures.
