love the outdoors. work in the IT industry. like photography, but total newbie. Kayaking, hiking, and camping. Victoria, BC

Regarding photography... I do not use filters out of laziness and principle. I want to work with the light I am given, nor do I doctor photos digitally. I like the challenge of bringing out the color using aperature and exposure. Helps me to learn how to use the camera better.

I want to get a better camera, but what I have now is pretty much a point and shoot digital camera with some manual settings.

Some beginner tips... in auto shots, hold down the photo button halfway when the camera is pointed into a very bright spot and then reframe the shot to play with under exposing (eg. sunsets will have more colour). Frame with stuff on top/bottom and on the left/right to get a window effect. Section photograph into thirds horizontally and vertically instead of the typical half or quadrants (eg. half sky and half land...boring). Under exposing shots can bring out textures.
