I retired in 1996 sold my Bass boat and went back to photography as a full time hobby. I got started in photography when I was a portrait artist as a teenager. I didn't have the patience to put up with a live subject so I would photograph the subject and work off of the photos.
I have owned numerous film and digital cameras over the years and now shoot mostly with Canon equipment. I currently use a Canon EOS 50D and EOS 350D as a backup. My lenses range from EF-S 18-55mm ( by the way, this is a lot better lens than the bad rap it gets, for me at least) , AF 50mm f/1.4, 28-105 f/3.504.5, 17-40mm f4L, EF 70-200 F/4 L and Sigma 120-400mm .
I am honest enough with myself to know I have very little chance of ever being a pro, besides it would require a lot more work than I am willing to put into it. Photography is fun and relaxing for me, a stress beater. As a pro it would cease to be fun and would become a job, I will just keep it fun.
I am fortunate in that where I live I can open the sliding glass door in my bedroom and photograph a wide variety of birds and critters without ever leaving my computer desk.
Currently I am doing mostly wildlife and outdoor photography but also enjoy landscape, architectural and travel photography(when I can travel, (which isn't often anymore.)
